'67 Spider-Man cartoon boxset in June!?
Very surprising news. Just read this on http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/ :
Available on DVD for the first time ever, Spidey's classic 1967 animated adventures are brought together in the amazing SPIDER-MAN: THE '67 CLASSIC COLLECTION DVD box set. This nostalgic six-DVD set brings together all 52 fully restored classic Spider-Man episodes from the original 1967 TV series. It's non-stop action and excitement as Spidey takes on his biggest foes, including Dr. Octopus, The Green Goblin, Mysterio, The Rhino, The Kingpin, Dr. Magneto, and many more! This unique set is a must-own collectible for every Spider-Man fan, only on DVD June 29.
What a mind-altering set this will be. I pity anyone attempting a marathon. This show was so repetitive. I think people like it so much because of the great theme song & maybe don't remember the actual cartoon very well. I'll have to do some thinking before I decide if I'm buying or not. This is a very rare case where a "best of" might've been enough for me. I do remember it having cool music throughout & I like a lot of the voices, but how many times can I watch Spidey swing through the city? I love that the voice of Spider-Man is also Hermey the elf dentist.

Spider-man, Spider-man
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size
Catches thieves, just like flies
Look out! Here comes the Spider-man!
Is he strong? Listen, bud!
He's got radioactive blood
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look overhead
Hey there, there goes the Spider-man!
In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light, he arrives just in time
Spider-man, Spider-man
Friendly neighborhood Spider-man
Wealth and fame, he's ignored
Action is his reward
To him, life is a great big gang-up
Wherever there's a hang-up
You'll find the Spider-man!

Further confirmation at DVDAnswers...
I hope that price tag isn't a misprint.

Buena Vista have also sent us over the first details on Spider-Man: The '67 Classic Collection which brings together all fifty-two fully restored classic Spider-Man episodes from the original 1967 TV series. It will be available to own from the 29th June this year and should set you back somewhere in the region of $19.99. You will also be able to pickup Spider-Man Vs Doc Ock from the same day for around $19.99.

I agree with the original poster about this set- although we all remember the theme song- I would find myself hard pressed to watch this marathon style....
I too rememebr being bored as a kid watching Spiderman swing through the city to that funky 70's music..at times it seemed to never end...
nonetheless, if this is the actual price...count me in..but i seriously doubt it though.

I am SO all over this one. I've been dying to get the entire series on DVD, and now after years of waiting (20+ years since it was shown regularly in So Cal) I'll finally have it.
Sure, some of the stories are cheesy, and they re-use much of the animation - but so what? Battlestar Galactica re-used battle footage in almost every episode (cheaper than filming new effects footage)! This is a classic show with warmth and humor and it really captures the feeling of an era that is now long gone.
My daughter digs this show too!
This is GREAT news.

This is good news. If this sells well maybe it will persuade Disney/Buena Vista to release more box sets of shows like the Fox Spiderman and the X-Men. As you all know Disney got a hold of all of the Fox Kids programming when it bought the Fox Family Channel. I doubt they will censor any of it, seeing that it was a fairly tame series by today's standards.
I'm hoping we might see even a Silver Surfer DVD somewhere down the road. Here's hoping.

If you grew up watching this show in the 60s like I did, you wouldn't ever have watched any other version. You know many people think the original TV Superman and TV Batman were also cheesy, but having grown up watching both, those are the only versions of the characters I will ever enjoy watching. Count me in for Spidey 67, now if we could only get Batman and Superman as well!

This is the most awesome DVD new that I have heard in a long time !
I have dubbed copies of these on VHS & I play the hell out of them.
Hopefully this will open doors for more classic cartoon series box sets !
Id love to have the Herculoids or Thundarr as well !

Honestly I have to agree with the criticism of the "animation" - it's only one step above the Marvel Men cartoons done in 1966. But... I loved the music and it's nostalgic - that's why I bought both Gigantor box sets. This one's going onto my wishlist!
BTW, a dig on the 1990's Spider-Man cartoon - Peter Parker never looked right!

Though I remember catching some of these during my youth, it was the live action series with Nicholas Hammond and later "Spider-man and His Amazing Friends" that I grew up on. I can still hum the music. No spidey under-roos for me but never underestimate the fun of a ski mask and sweat pants. Hopefully these will make it to DVD. Firestar was quite the curvaceous tomale. Maybe its me but I swear I noticed a touch of camel toe beneath that tight yellow costume. Sneaky animators or overactive imagination?

When I was a kid, I used to get confused about how Spider-man could swing 2 miles above the city...I kept thinking "what the hell is his web sticking to?" Maybe he had the Spidey-blimp circling the city.
Course this is the same anal retentive kid that got upset because the archival footage they were showing in Midway showed F4U Corsairs landing on the carrier...to which I said "that's bullshit! Corsairs weren't in service until the following year!"
So it could be that I was too picky. I loved the series, but don't know how well it will age for me. I will probably check it out on rental first though. Regardless of my feelings, congrats to the people waiting for this, because I know many people have been made happy by this announcement!

IMDB links to a site with a story about remastering the cartoons. Here's part of it:
Supervised by Buena Vista International Television, all 52 half-hours of the classic 3-season series will be re-mastered to a high definition format from the original 35mm film negatives.
The soundtrack, including the classic title song and jazzy incidental music will also be redone with a new music/effects track.
According to Tom Toumazis, Senior Vice President of BVI-TV, Europe, Middle East & Africa : " ... by using today's technology, we can both halt the severe deterioration of the original film and improve upon its sound and visual effects, while maintaining the series' classic retro look and witty storylines."

No date on the story so I don't know how old it is. I think a Canadian channel has played this show in the last couple of years. Did anyone watch? Were there any noticeable differences in sound or video? I'm not sure how to interpret "redone." I suppose this was all done before the single disc releases of 90s episodes with bonus 60s episode.

This, and Johnny Quest, are the two classic cartoon series I've been waiting for! (Well, I know it's a long-shot, but if only Rocket Robin Hood were to be released...)
