I've just purchased Snow White from someone. It does not seem to be a bootleg version, but it says "Version francaise incluse" in a small yellow circle on the left corner.

Came in a double disc Alpha case.
Anyone know about this?

Except for the glaring missing scene and cut dialogue the Canadian government deemed offensive.

I get a lot of Disney DVDs from Overstock.com and they almost always have overstocks of the Canadian version.

Usually they're identical except for the sticker/circle (sometimes it's a sticker on the wrapper and sometimes it's a little circle as part of the artwork.

In any case, the U.S. version also includes a French audio track, so the point is usually just to signify to the French-speaking Canadians that there is indeed a French version of the audio.

Usually it's just the cover that's different. If you don't mind the Canadian maple leaf and maybe some written print on the artwork on the cover. On a recent trip to Canada I was tempted to pick up some titles but noticed differences to the cover. Needless to say I preferred the US print artwork. The content is the usually the same. I haven't heard anything about the Canadian censorship of disney.

[Off topic but related]I personally think Canada should get it's own region. I don't listen to or care about the French soundtrack or subtitles. They should use that space is reduce compression to improve picture quality or included more extras. Just who the hell the Canadian authorities think they are to mandate French language in DVD or its artwork?

And there are no government mandates for bilingual dvds. Some disks have it, some don't. It's clearly up to the various companies as to how they wish to deal with it. Some do the full bilingual thing like Dreamworks and Universal, some like Disney just do the little "french version" quote.

Personally, I like the Disney way best. Though I'd prefer it to be on the back instead of the marring the front.

The ones that *really* bug me are the reversible ones. They put English and French on one side, and if you flip it, you get French and English.

The perfect solution, satisfy no one.

No idea why they don't just put all english on one side, and all french on the other.
