I was looking at my Best Buy for Ed Wood (NOTHING) and I saw Planet of the Apes there and I checked it out. All they had was P&S too. Bummer :(

A while back I was in wally world checking out the DVD's and a woman (early 30's) was looking for a movie and asked the clerk if they had any full screen. While the clerk was looking she turned to me and said "I hate those bars on the top and bottom."
I looked at her and said "Sooner or later if you buy that movie you will have bars on the sides instead of the top and bottom." She looked at me with a confused look in her face and I pointed to one of the WS HDTV sets and said "That is the future lady!" and before she or I could say anything else my wife grabbed me and we left. |
Fullscreen only at my Wal-Mart. So I stop at Best Buy no copies at all, what give? Finally found about 3 copies at Circuit City both Widescreen for 19.99. Oh, by the way NO ED WOOD!!!

the Best Buy near my house (Marin City, just north of San Francisco) had a good handful (maybe 10 on display) of Widescreen version of Planet of the Apes, they had not that many copies of the full screen.

But the guy working in electronics was miffed about that too... I asked him why he worked there if he couldn't get some DVD's in Widescreen, and he said "Ah, I've got two semesters left in college... I can wait" |
Stopped by my local Wal-Mart earlier today since the weather was too bad to go any further to CC, and sure enough no widescreen POTA. But worst of all, no widescreen Lost In Translation and no American Splendor at all. I also noticed that there were no widescreen copies of The Fighting Temptations. The clerk said that's all they got. I also noticed a sign saying Open Range was only available in widescreen, lol. To sum up, this is not a good thing at all. Hopefully other retailers will be smart enough to disregard the general publics full screen habit. I don't wanna have to go through alot of trouble to get widescreen like I did in the VHS days.

The over all sales chart shows widescreen sells more than full.
Your always going to have a small group who go againest the majority, but make a lot of noise. |
Same here in las vegas Walmart had all fullscreen of pota for $19.96, went to best buy and got pota WS and die hard for $30
|
The over all sales chart shows widescreen sells more than full. Widescreen could statistically outsell fullscreen by 50-1 and it wouldn't matter. Walmart will always buy fullscreen because the complaining customer is the fullscreen customer. If someone who prefers widescreen buys somewhere else, Walmart doesn't know and therefore doesn't care. The trailer-trash that shops the Walmart aisles will buy a widescreen DVD then complain about it. That is all Walmart knows. |

Not only did the Wal-Mart in Marietta, GA only have P&S copies of POTA, but they were selling the fullscreen version of Lost in Translation for $5.19 less than the widescreen! A complete outrage!!!

I got my WS copy from CC for $14.49
I pricematched BB's weekly ad with the listing of 2 Fox SEs for $30, but only bought PotA. I love CC! |
I did not find Ed Wood anywhere(no surprise)...but did venture to WM briefly & low & behold. P&S everything!
I did have a copy of Apes in my hand & was walking up to the electronics counter only to find the clerk had left despite being their seconds ago. Never around when you want to dare to ask them a question! At least now I know why I do not shop at WM often. Only when I am out with a friend, does she make me cave in & buy something. Yet 99% of the time,I walk out empty handed when alone. |

It probably depends on where you are. I live in a college town and never have trouble finding widescreen copies in my Wal-Mart. Never any signs or warnings. They may be below the PS copies, but they're there.
When I visit my parents I notice their Wal-Mart stocks primarily full screen copies instead. |
