I called my local Borders and they immediately told me that it was recalled as soon as I mentioned the name (as if they just found out about it).

I called another Borders a little bit of a distance further, and put it on hold, and then went and picked up the two copies they received immediately.

That was a close call.

A word of advice - if you have it held at Borders, pick it up ASAP (listen to rennervision).

My local Borders here in Cleveland held one for me this morning when I called. By the time I drove over there (30 minutes later), they said that they just got an e-mail from corporate and had to pull all of them to ship back (even the ones being reserved).

Fortunately, after checking out every possible store in the area, I finally found one (their only copy) at Blockbuster for $30.

no copies here locally. I wanted the R2 disc anyway. I was lucky just to have found Grand Hotel!!

I guess each Border will only have only 2 Copies in stock.

I put one on hold online this morning, so hopefully it will be there when I stop by after work. This store was one that still gave away the Something Weird sampler for months after it was pulled, so hopefully they will defy authority again.

Thanks alot for posting this. They have only a few copies at my Borders store here in Boulder. I had them reserve it, and am now going to run over and pick it up before they figure out they made a mistake!

Just got back from Borders in Boulder, CO. I had it held there for me thanks to whoever started this thread. I picked it up for $19.99 plus a 10% discount w/ no problems. FYI, the Broomfield, CO Borders also claims to have a couple in stock.

I went online to check my local B's for their inventory. They listed in stock as "yes", so I called. I talked to a lady and gave her the ISBN number. She put a copy on hold for me and I raced to the store.

When I got there, I went to one of the middle 'stations', and I talked to a guy. He said that the dvd was recalled, but I told him that I had one on hold. He told me to go to the front and there indeed was a copy there on hold. I paid for it, and asked if they had an additional copy. The guy at the front of the store called his manager, and the same man who told me that the dvd was recalled walked to the front registers and handed him a copy!

So now I have 2 extra!

I would call soon. Don't wait past today, because I would assume that any chances of getting it are going to be gone after today.

...so....when can I paypal you for a copy?:D

Update - I went and DID pick it up, so I am psyched! Thanks to this thread starter - I might not have been able to get it if not for you!!!

I called the Fox Point Borders last night, and was told the computer showed they had 2 (one of which I knew a friend had reserved), but they apparently did not receive them yet (wrong).

I called again this morning at 10:00 and reserved the second copy for myself. Literally 10 minutes before I was going to leave from work for the store, the guy I spoke to called to tell me they had gotten an email saying Ed Wood had been recalled and they couldn't sell them. I just knew I should have had my little lady pick it up on her lunch hour :)

I did not stop at the store to try to beg for it...

Also this morning at 10:00, I called the downtown Borders store, and the lady who answered the phone laughed when I asked if they had Ed Wood - she said she thought that it was recalled and then checked to make sure.

It sounds like corporate was letting a lot of the stores know about the recall around noon today.

Crap, I must've just missed this.

I checked online at my local Borders, which said they had it in stock. Called up the folks there, spoke to a gentleman who said his computer showed 1 in stock. He went to check for me.

After a few minutes on hold, he came back and said "I aplogize sir, it looks like there was a problem with this DVD and we had to send it back to the distributor. We'll probably have to wait until they release it again before we get any more of them. I'm not sure what the problem was."

I got 2 copies this morning at another California Borders, and just saw this thread after getting home.
I was there soon after they opened, happened to be on other errands nearby. They weren't on the new release shelf, but already filed in the "drama" section. About $18 each, with the current 10% coupon.
I have a few friends that want this, so I called 2 other Borders in another town where I'll be on Thursday. Both stores already knew about the recall and said it wasn't being sold, citing "legal issues".
As several other posters have stated, if you have one on hold, pick it up ASAP.

Jeaster, to add to Will3000's comment, it is a conflict of interest to inform a retailer that a dvd has been recalled, and then try to come here and give us 'the scoop' on where the dvd can be had.

You're playing both sides of the field, and poorly at that.

Thanks for letting us know, but no thanks for letting Borders know.

At about 11:45 AM I walked into a Borders in the West Valley area and snagged 2 copies off the "New Release" rack :)

sadly, I dont have a borders ANYWHERE near where I live, I'd have to go to Palm Springs. But the only place in my city that had it was Blockbuster (but i had to pay 30 bucks). oh well, I'm happy I found it.

Man, I was going to check Borders at 1:45 or so but I thought it would be a waste of time. I just went to check it out when I saw this thread and they told me it had been recalled. So close. :(

Go to www.borders.com and see if the site shows if the stores around you still have the title in stock. That's how I got mine this morning.

Score at Blockbuster, single copy, almost fainted when I saw that Holy Grail! Oh Draconian Devil!

I just picked up 2 copies at my local Blockbuster also. They had to dig them out of the boxes. Guess they hadnt gotten word yet...
