"DVD is NOT the white ring version (value of $580.00++). DVD is the old U.S. test print edition which includes the test print of paper fold insert. DVD was purchased back in early 1999..."

Hmmm.

He's also got negative feedback for "above average copies".

His only other auction is for DVD discs with no cases.

Sounds fishy.

I would suggest it is a fake. He is asking for a buy it now of $109.95, and seeing how one just went for $760. He is either an idiot or a scammer.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2296

He is only at 90% feedback which isn't that great. I say it is not worth the risk.

I am not suggesting to you it is fake, im TELLING you it is fake.

Look at his feedback, look at his description.....that should ring a bell right away.

The unfortunate thing is this bozo is going to get over 100 bucks for something that probably cost him 5 bucks.

$760 for a DVD?!?!?! Yeesh. Is this even a good movie? A movie worth watching a few times? I knew this was a rare DVD, but, come on, $760 (US$) is going a little too far. But, I guess it's the same thing with any other subject (ie. cars, sports cards, etc.)

To each is own is all I have to say.

Despite the fact I have never seen the whole movie, the Criterion version of Salo has been a big interest of mine for the past year or so. If you are curious $700 is not the highest it can go for, mint and real it has been known to go for $1,000. Another interesting note is there is a video store in Toronto rents this DVD: $10 for 3 days with a $500 deposit.

His feedback sums up everything you need to know about him. Treat this cat like a case of herpes.

...."test printing." That means no white ring. Which means bootleg.

[Full disclosure: I offer the Region 2 edition for sale. Which doesn't make this disc any less of a fake. Just saying]

I hate scum bag ebayers. If they don't have 98%+ rating, stay as far away from their auction as possible.

"DVD is NOT the white ring version-MSRV for genuine white ring approx. $580.00++ (value)"

If it doesn't have the white ring, its a fake. I used to sell the EXACT same one. Its a fake, but a very good one. I have pictures of the dvd and disc. If u want to see it, email me at [email protected].

TLA Video in Bryn Mawr used to ask for $100. It could be more now. However, since I was a regular with a cc on file, they didn't require that when I rented it...

I was monitoring that auction. Actually, it ended at $760, but did NOT go for $760. Auction did not meet his reserve price, and considering I sold him my sealed version for $725 (which is NOT the one pictured, as the sticker on mine was slightly crooked), I doubt he is going to let it go for $760.

I am curious about this guy's auctions as well. ALL of his auctions are for Out-of-Print Criterions, some sealed, some opened. ... and most he has in quantity. Either a VERY SAVVY collector or a DAMN GOOD bootlegger.

From another forum... this is very sad...

"I have managed to track down every OOP Criterion Collection title. For a lot of people, especially for those on an extremely tight budget, dealing with shady sellers can be frustrating. But I opted to pay a little more for a quality seller: In fact I bought Salo, The Killer, Hard Boiled, This is Spinal Tap, Sid and Nancy, and Dead Ringers from one seller. I don't remember asking for The Killer/Hard Boiled Paul Champagne Case, but it makes a sweet little addition"

"Jacksbackagain is probably the nicest and most reliable seller on Ebay, along with a fellow called Ziadhn (or something like it). Both of them have been sold bootlegs by other users, but they have not pawned them off on their clients. I spent $300 (I think) on The Killer/Hard Boiled package (not as lucky as Boyya), plus around $200 for a sealed this is Spinal Tap. I was considering buying it used, but because the disc is dual layered, the risks of scratches, damages, and dirt is much higher. I bought Salo for $550, although that probably had to do with the Holiday shopping season.

I got Dead Ringers + Sid and Nancy, both sealed, for $110. Charade, Unbearable Lightness of Being, How to Get ahead in Advertising were $50 each sealed. I picked up The Hitchcock 5 Movie boxset in early December, and I have had Robocop and Silence of the Lambs for quite some time.

It is an expensive hobby, yes, but it's my hobby"

He now has 25 Criterions.

Up until recently, I had all the Out of Print Criterions as well, although, in all but a couple cases, I paid retail. The ones I bought when OOP cost me $60 or so. I had picked up the big ticket items before they went OOP, such as Killer, Hard Boiled and Salo.

... most of them I still have never watched. So, I have stated selling them, so that I can pay for DVDs that I will watch.

Being a reformed DVD collector (fanatic), I can understand those people that feel compelled to own all the OOP material.

I love DVDs but I have trained myself NOT to pay extra for OOP material that will eventually make it to another printing. I made myself crazy trying to do that with comic books. I have decided I am not in this for resell. If I like a movie and think its worth multi viewings then I purchase it but I do not get something because it have a low press number its first time out.

400 Blows
Mon Oncle
M Hulot's Holiday
Playtime (soon)

Hope Criterion could bring more OOP DVDs back again!
