Proportion of folks that watch their DVDs in HD
I'd like to see a poll taken to get an idea of how many DVDTalk members watch their DVDs primarily in HD (progressive scan) as opposed to the traditional scan rate.

Hmmm... confusing question, and a title which is equally certain to confuse.
Progressive scan is NOT the same as HD.
For what it is worth, I do watch DVDs using a Progressive scan player, and also with a 3:2 pulldown engaged.
I hope to be viewing one of the high definition DVD formats once one of them actually exists... someday.

If your talking about upconversion to 1080i, yes I do.
With my Denon 5900, I use the DVI connection to the DVI connection on the Pioneer Elite 630.
It's not quite HD image but it's close and a better image than
progressive scan.

I don't think you're confusing the simpletons but your question as worded can have several meanings and as Bruce pointed out progressive output of 480p and HD are not the same. Add into the mix that there are many who scale their output to HD resolutions of 540p,720p or 1080i and the question gets blurred further.
So are you curious as to how many people watch in progressive mode on a HDTV or, just in progressive mode on a EDTV or HDTV or at HD resolutions after being scaled?

I watch all of my movies through a progressive scan player to a HD-capable 16:9 projector. I do not have any HD material yet though, thus I am not watching HD material yet on it.

I watch my DVDs on my Panny EDTV display with a progressive scan DVD player. The DVD player also does the 3:2 pulldown (as opposed to the TV).

If you want to asking a Polling Question, use the Polling option when you setup the thread.
Here is my vote:
1. Watch DVD in Progressive mode on HDTV - Yes
2. Watch DVD in Progressive mode on EDTV - No
3. Watch DVD on Standard TV (Interlace, None Progressive) - No

Progressive scan is not HD. Proscan just draws every line every pass. HD has more lines of resolution.
The only currently available HD-DVDs are the few discs produced using MS Media Player 9 and the only way to put them on a TV is using a PC connected to a HDTV using a DVI cable.

A simpleton is a person lacking common sense. Not understanding a question (poll?) does not mean anyone is a simpleton. Common sense has nothing to do with it. I am simpleton for responding to this silly thread not for my lack of understanding the question. Now if you would like to discuss the merits of using progressive scan mode with an analog tv that's a horse of a different color.
Oh, to answer your question, no I don't.

Well, no matter what the question is (after deciphered)
- not me. I watch all my DVDs on a 27" regular TV using the s-video output of an ancient Sony player.
Geez, am I the only one left in the world without an HDTV or widescreen of some sort? Or not at least in the 30" TV range? Seriously though, it's plenty good enough for me.
