Oscar noms push City of God DVD back to June!!!
from DVD Answers:
Buena Vista have kindly got in touch with us regarding a delay for the region one release of City of God which stars the likes of Jefechander Suplino, Alice Braga and Emerson Gomes. The film was originally scheduled for a release on the 17th February, although it has now been put back until the 8th June this year. Presumably this has something to do with the recent Oscar nominations. The retail price will remain at $29.99. For a few more details, please refer to the related article at the bottom of this page.
all i can say is.. MOTHERF#@$ER! first Ed Wood and now City of God (which should've been released on DVD 6 months ago!). i can understand that they want to capitalize on the Oscar nominations but JUNE?! how about mid-march? that'd be time enough to add whatever slogans they want on the cover, whether it is "NOMINATED FOR 4 OSCARS" or "WINNER OF BLA BLA BLA OSCAR"... ARGH! June.. that's almost 1½ year after it came out in theaters.. and wouldn't it possibly sell better if it's released around the Oscars, when press is at it's peak?
sigh...

How is this a good idea? Is the film getting a theatrical rerelease? If not, why would they do this? If anything right now would be the BEST time to have this film out because now people might want to see it. I was dying to see this a year ago, but unfortunately it played in about 2 theaters. Argh...Disney, to hell.

You figure that the extra delay and the fact that it got 4 Oscar nominations - it'll be at least a 2-disc set.
We'll see.
It'll probably still be the basic DVD we were always expecting, making the extra long wait totally useless.

Philips 727 available from Amazon for about $75 with free shipping. Simple one-time remote hack makes it region-free forever, and it handles PAL conversion very well.

Got the UK DVD 3 or 4 months ago... absolutely brilliant movie... I think I put it #22 all time on my list. This delay really sucks for those waiting to see it though. If it gets rereleased in theaters (I assume this would be the main reason for the DVD delay), I may actually go to see it there just for the experience... such an amazing film.

The disappointment, frustration and anger inside of me can not be displayed just by a forum for this as well as Ed Wood. The only thing I can do is

This last week has been extremely dissapointing with regards to DVDs.
I wonder if Dirty Pretty Things will see a delay as well.
