Will someone else eventually release the rest of The Mary Tyler Moore Show?
I know all about Mary Tyler Moore Show season 1 sales doing so poorly that they decided not to release the rest of the series on DVD, but can't another company come along and distribute it? I just don't understand how these companies think sometimes. I mean here we have a sitcom that was just so-so funny in the first season, didn't get into high gear until season 2 (so we knew sales of season 1 would do poorly), and what does 20th Century Fox do? They release the show with a complete DVD treatment (commentaries, documentary, digitally remasterd, etc, etc.). Meanwhile, an old show like Lost In Space (which uses alot of old special effects that could've benefitted from digitally remastering) doesn't get any restoration, and instead of mastering the show from pristine 35mm negatives, they decided to use the old 1" video masters that have been laying around for over a decade and a half. The result: Mary Tyler Moore first season looks and sounds great and it's dead in the water as far as fans ever seeing the rest of the show released on DVD, and Lost In Space is doing great in sales so far, and the fans are seeing a far inferior picture than could've been offered.
