Freddy vs. Jason - cheese, but it wasn't as bad as many expected.
Resident Evil was rather good also.


I see a lot of people suggesting 28 Days Later, but I thought it sucked. It's not a zombie movie, despite what people say. It's a poor man's version of Stephen King's "The Stand." It's like someone wanted to make an artsy tribute, then realized that no one would watch it unless there were "monsters." Oh yeah, the grainy out of focus filming style might give you headaches as your eyes try to focus.

And I get flamed every time I say this, but The Ring... plot holes you can drive a truck through, bad premise if you stop and think about it.

It hasn't been a good time for horror movies in general. You're best off buying some of the re-releases. Day of the Dead came out recently, and the upcoming Dawn of the Dead sounds like a horror fan's dream.

Session 9, Devil's Backbone and Frailty are musts.

Cabin Fever - creapy, weird and fun.

Wrong Turn - fantastic movie! Ive seen so many horror movies that they dont really truely scare me anymore... Wrong Turn had me on the edge of my seat.

Dog Soldiers - great werewolf movie!

Jeepers Creepers 2 - I liked 2 and little better than the first one... but go ahead and get the first one if you haven't seen it.

Resident Evil - fantastic zombie movie.

Freddy vs Jason - pure fun, anyone who didn't enjoy this doesn't have a soul.

Jason X - Friday the 13th in space... cheesy and campy... but fun as hell. most didn't like it, I thought it was great.

28 Days Later is slightly overrated, IMHO.

I'm sorry but the remake was just terrible. It was an insult to anyone who really enjoyed the first one. Characters were replaced, and basically it was dumbed down to this generations 'horror' movies. Theres tons of shit I hated about the movie, and I could go on forever, but I wont. The original was perfect.

Poor man's version of "The Stand?" In "The Stand" people who got infected with the virus just died, they didn't turn into mindless beings who sought to feed on living people (zombies, in other words). Just because the "zombies" in "28 Days Later" weren't the dead come back to life doesn't mean it is more like "The Stand". Just a different kind of zombie.

Also, what plot holes in "The Ring"? Just because they didn't explain everything to you doesn't mean it had holes in it. A film that is ambiguous is different than one where there are clear contradictions. You might think it was bad, but there weren't a bunch of plot holes.

Also, "Resident Evil" was only good up until the zombies appeared. Then it turned into a Korn music video or something and went downhill sharply. Like other Paul W.S. Anderson movies it had an interesting premise but was executed extremely poorly.

I'd like to add more praise for "Session 9" and "Frailty" for recent horror movies, as well as "The Ring"/"Ringu" and "28 Days Later"

Personally, I wouldn't classify Identity, From Hell or Frailty as "horror," but it's a thin line...Frailty comes closer than the others to being a horror film as opposed to thriller, but it all depends on how you approach the film.

Yes, a poor-man's version of The Stand. Virus escapes, kills population, let's watch how people react. L-A-M-E. And they weren't zombies. A zombie is an undead being. These were just crazy people. So someone made an artsy version of The Stand and then added crazy people as "monsters." It was a poor excuse for a horror movie, it was very predictable and there was not one single moment that was surprising or shocking.

As for The Ring. Gee, 4 kids from the same school die in a close time period and there's no inquiry? I could give you even more plot holes that I found, but that would mean I'd have to watch that stink-fest movie about a glorified killer chain letter again, and I'm not that masochistic.

It's great that you people like the movie, and I don't fault you for that. I'm just saying that these are NOT good horror films. They can't even hold a candle to the base B-grade slasher flicks.
