How many of your dvd's are still unopened

I have about 110 dvds and I have to say that about 50 - 60 % are unopened. Ever since my daughter was born 7 months ago, seems like I have no time to watch movies.

illennium 01-22-04 09:03 AM

There have already been threads about this. In my case, 75 of my 161 DVDs are unopened.

Yakuza Bengoshi 01-22-04 09:06 AM

This is a very popular subject matter here.

As for me, I have about 200 unopened DVDs.

LasVegasMichael 01-22-04 09:09 AM

Porbably about 15 out of 257.

RobCA 01-22-04 09:10 AM

None... I open all my DVDs as soon as I buy them. :)

I probably have about 40 (out of 432) that haven't been watched yet.

marty888 01-22-04 09:15 AM

About 40 out of approximately 1200 .... big backlog (for me)thanks to the DDD coupon nonsense.

EPKJ 01-22-04 09:18 AM

None, I open all my DVD's when I purchase them and I watch all my DVD's within 14 days of purchase.

Re: How many of your dvd's are still unopened

None. And all of them have been watched at least once.

Spiky 01-22-04 03:33 PM

Zero. Most of them watched, although I just picked up several box sets. Haven't watched all the discs although I've seen all the shows before.

steebo777 01-22-04 03:35 PM

None. I open them immediately to check the discs.

sataniko 01-22-04 03:45 PM

Also open all DVD's immediately, although I may watch them months after purchasing them.

Shannon Nutt 01-22-04 03:49 PM

I have about 100 unopened DVDs...it's come back to haunt me too...I opened a Mad About You Season 1 set to find out one of the DVDs was missing!

Roper 01-22-04 03:55 PM

I once bought one of the single episode MST3K DVD's and waited about two months to open it. The disc said it was MST3K, but when I put it in the player, it was 'The Three Tenors in Concert' on both sides. I have immediately opened and tested every DVD since.

Man, that sucks.

As soon as I get home tonight, I plan on opening ALL of my unopened DVD's! (50 out of 300).

madmoose 01-22-04 04:00 PM

2 since I bought 2 on monday...about 9 unwatched though

OldBoy 01-22-04 04:02 PM

I don't understand why you wouldn't open it immediately!! How do you know what is inside?? What if on the outside it is "Contact", but on the inside is a disc on how to best utilize contact paper throughout your house! Open it for goodness sake..just do it! it takes a second to open, but it takes a lifetime to get over the fact that you got screwed with a disc that broke it half.
i dunno..i buy..don't watch any..but open just so they are accessible if and when i decide to view. that's all.

gbub 01-22-04 04:24 PM

Due to a shipping error (possibly) I got a large number of Troma DVDs during their sale way back. I watched a number of them and then got Troma-ed out. I haven't watched a Troma movie since (save Cannibal! The Musical) and still have 1 disk sitting unopened. Everything else I open right away.

island007 01-22-04 04:43 PM

All of mine are opened, but I have about 200 unwatched. I will catch-up sometime.

nemein 01-22-04 04:54 PM

I have 1 unopened right now (well atleast for the next hour or so ;)) as it was one I was thinking about returning but decided not too. Overall though I usually open them as soon as I get them to check them out before the return policy expires. Unwatched though I probably have around 2 dozen.

marty888, God bless you and thank you for getting rid of that signature :D

jayson1017 01-22-04 05:00 PM

All of my dvds are opened. Even if I know I won't watch the dvds for a long while, I open them just to check out the insert...

jayson1017 01-22-04 05:16 PM

And if there is no insert when I open the dvd, I keep my kool.

He's got the illness. It's the same reason I own Jaws 3, 4, Home Alone 3, and Last Action Hero.

Fortunately, I am in recovery. It is a long process, but I'm working on it. Baby Steps! Baby Steps!

gutwrencher 01-22-04 05:50 PM

un-opened....0
un-watched...0

...except for the 8 dvds arriving on Friday.:D

chente 01-22-04 05:59 PM

By recovery, I mean that I am looking more at quality (i.e. Ten Commandments instead of Last Action Hero), moreso then just "cheap DVDs."

There was a time when quantity was what I desired, and now, finally, I have evolved into wanting a quality collection.

But that is just me. -ptth-

MEJHarrison 01-22-04 06:39 PM

I have none unopened, but about 30 unwatched out of about 200. That's a new high for me. I got behind last Christmas with Fellowship of the Ring and haven't been able to catch up since.

vivarey 01-22-04 07:07 PM

At least 20%... ouch, gotta go and catch up now.

MrDs10e 01-22-04 07:13 PM

The value of not opening DVDs until I watch them didn't occur to me until recently when I found a copy of "Gleaming the Cube" in a store and sold it on EBay for $200. So for a long time, I was opening DVDs just for the thrill of unwrapping them. Since then, I don't open em 'til I watch em for the most part.

DVDs: ~ 150
Unwatched: ~ 50
Unopened: ~ 10

bjh_18 01-22-04 07:18 PM

unopened - 0
unwatched - 0

I open them as soon as I get home (or get in the car if someone else is driving) and I watch them as soon as I possibly can.

John Sy 01-22-04 07:46 PM

I have only one unopened DVD out of a total collection of 315 titles. It's "My Fellow Americans"...my wife bought that one and it's in fullscreen so it stayed unopened and unwatched.

QuiGonJosh 01-22-04 09:36 PM

not a single disc...

D.Pham5GLTE (>60GB) 01-22-04 10:46 PM

probably 20/300.

baracine 01-22-04 10:50 PM

Ever since it came out, I've had this unopened copy of the Criterion Edition of Agnès Varda's Vagabond which I cold-bought on the strength of my liking Cléo in the Afternoon so much. I have been putting off watching it because I am afraid it will depress me to death. It's the post-mortem of a dead female teenage runaway. Am I wrong?

HistoryProf 01-22-04 11:04 PM

out of 325 all of them are opened, 25 or so are unwatched - I had that number in the single digits before that damned DDD sale and xmas hit.....but who's complaining?

Because I have a problem, and I'm man enough to admit that.

Sure, it's not the most uplifting film ever made, but rather than be depressing I think it can make one greatful for the choices one has made. Very minor spoiler:
Spoiler:
the protagonist is offered several opportunities to choose paths other than the one that she did. It's not the story of a poor unfortunate who's the complete victim of circumstances beyond her control.
Try watching it on a Saturday afternoon in a well heated room with a full stomach. You'll do fine. :)
