Dont Tempt Me (Penelope Cruz/Gael Garcia Bernal)
I am both happy and sad seeing this film coming to R1. Here's why:
The Happy Part-
an excellent production that teams up Penelope Cruz with Gael Garcia Bernal (Amores Peros; The Crime of Padre Amaro), Victoria Abril (Kika; Between your Legs; Almodovar's Tie Me Up Tie Me Down) etc.
The Sad Part (I hope I am wrong)-
the film will be distributed in the US by First Look Pictures. This company is the least to say HORRIBLE!!
Not only have they butchered a number of great films but they honestly have no idea what aspect ratios are (PLEASE look at their most recent releases- Between Strangers and The Producers) where they list 1-1:78 and 1-1:85 ratios as being FULL SCREEN. Not to mention that they have done a travesty of a job with Liv Ulman's Faithless as well as the Spanish aclaimed drama Solas.
If anyone could prove me wrong (hoping for good news) that this release will be anamoprhic PLEASE POST HERE! Thank you!!
Here's the cover work for the upcoming R1 release is an exact replica of the theatrical poster:
synopsis of the film-
" Heaven has sent its best, and the devil has enlisted his worst - Victoria Abril and Penelope Cruz co-star as agents doing battle for ultimate supremacy. The winner is to be decided by whoever can secure the soul of a short-tempered, punch-drunk boxer on earth. These sexy angels pull no punches, using their brains, wiles and of course, sex appeal. Damnation has never been this seductive, and seduction never more heavenly; he’s not going to know what hit him…he’s only human! "
***********
There is an excellent R2 version of the film available in Spain that comes with English subs BUT...I dont like importing every second film I like because of poor domestic management.
EDIT:
I have confirmed that the Spanish R2 version DOES NOT have a DTS track.

According to the screener, here's the features:
Scene Selections
Trailer
Spanish Subtitles
Cast Filmographies
And on the disc it says "Dolby Digital"
And if I remember correctly, it was anamorphic. Don't quote me on that, though.

It was nice with no distortions. They could've made it more... vivid, though. But overall, it was pretty good.
I wish I could help you out on confirming it was anamorphic.

ok, so these people are either complete idiots or they do all of this with a purpose. Can anyone really tell me what the aspect ratio on this DVD is and if it is anamorphic (on the bottom it says 1.85:1- FULL SCREEN)
I mean if they did it once I'd say OK it was a misprint but look here same story- 1.78:1-Full screen!!! Huh?

ok...thank you very much sir. Since the transfer is not up to par (which I was expecting from these amateurs) I am going Spanish.....yet again!
I can always support a great image quality and DTS track.....too bad though since I really wanted to get it right here in the States.
Thank you!
edit:
This review indicates no DTS for the Spanish dvd
