Milestone numbers in your DVD collection

For those of you that have reached certain milestone numbers in your collection such as #50, #100, #500, #1000, etc Did you plan on making a purchase to state the exact movie you wanted at that number or did it just happen? I'm always keeping track of my DVDs, knowing exactly how many and when I bought them. I knew when I was coming up on a certain number like this week when this certain title comes out it will be my #100th DVD. But now I'm closing in on my #500th DVD and I'm kinda thinking I'd really like it to be something important. I know it sounds lame and trivial but hey that's why we are here. Have you planned a purchase for a milestone number in your collection?

I always mark the 50 milestones in my collection but about the closest I've come to what you are saying is picking which one of a group I get about the same time I pass the milestone I want to use for the milestone.

illennium 01-19-04 11:27 PM

I never know exactly how many I have, so this wouldn't work for me.

Autotelik 01-19-04 11:39 PM

I only have about 185 titles, but for #100, I wanted to make sure it was special. I chose "The Decalogue" :)

Not sure what I'll choose for #200 though.

NitroJMS 01-19-04 11:59 PM

1 - Tomorrow Never Dies (Non-SE)
100 - Chasing Amy: Criterion
200 - Coyote Ugly
300 - Jackie Brown
400 - Bring It On
500 - Family Guy - Volume 2

Me either. I noticed last week when I was entering some I purchased that I had gone over the 100 mark, but since I entered a bunch at the same time, I don't know which one was actually my 100th.

I'll give a third vote to this one. Aside from keeping a fairly accurate count in the Profiler, I usually buy more then one at once, so the exact milestone is never really noticed by me.

I didn't even start keeping a record until I already had about 130, as it wasn't a true obsession of mine until then. Now I am at the 274 mark according to Profiler.

Honestly, if I actually noted all the milestones, it would probably scare me into not buying as many. Because right now, I am thinking:

"Damn, I spent the money to get 274 DVDs? Am I friggin' nuts???" :jawdrop:

This is why I do not pay attention to milestones.

Nope, random chance.

edytwinky 01-20-04 03:57 AM

It's all random

EPKJ 01-20-04 04:09 AM

I don't bother. Considering that when I upgrade I always sell the older version, my collection numbers change fairly frequently.

I don't do anything special to commemorate a milestone but I do know that the next dvd I buy will be #666.

victant 01-20-04 05:36 AM

#1 Leon: The Professional
#100 Fantasia Anthology
#200 Yojimbo CC
#666 Sol Bianca CE
#800 Looney Tunes, Golden
#1000 ?

I try to make the "milestone number" a pretty good title/package whenever the opportunity arises. However, it's been mostly random, especially as of late.

Same here. I remember my first (The Matrix) but that's about it.

Michael Corvin 01-20-04 06:34 AM

#600(602,603) Indiana Jones Trilogy

TomOpus 01-20-04 06:55 AM

As I get closer to #500, I'll have to think about getting something special. Problem is, I buy as they get released so hopefully they'll be something cool released close to when I hit #500. Maybe I'll try and project my target date and see what's being released around then.

ArchibaldTuttle 01-20-04 06:55 AM

all the dvds I buy I consider important, since I only have about 50

QuiGonJosh 01-20-04 07:52 AM

I dont pay attention to numbers...

steebo777 01-20-04 07:57 AM

What are thse numbers you speak of?

KTIK 01-20-04 08:49 AM

Numbers are these things that the Criterion Collection created.

100 was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I think. Guzzlefish said I hit 100 with that, but I'm not sure if they really had all the DVDs I owned in their system to acurately count.

HistoryProf 01-20-04 11:59 AM

nope....and since over time a few will get culled from the collection those that stay will have their numbers bumped down.....so it's a silly exercise to begin with. I love them all, they are all special :)

louiseb 01-20-04 12:27 PM

never

Kermit! 01-20-04 03:29 PM

Never even crossed my mind.

acostigan 01-20-04 04:02 PM

Random chance.

Libby 01-20-04 04:17 PM

Thats actually a good idea...Im going to have to think of one when I hit 50 in my collection. I think I have the lowest amount here...I count it at 33 currently..which is quite sad.
