Mister Ed and Lost in Space - First Impressions

I've watched a couple of the episodes of LIS and comparing it to the Columbia House VHS tapes I'd say the quality is only slightly improved! I should add that the tapes look great - almost DVD quality. Thank you, FOX. Mister Ed, while visually impressive, has some sound distortion between the dialogue on the first and second episodes. MGM, please take more care with your other TV shows.

True...

However, the CBS release of The Honeymooners is much older and I haven't detected any sound distortion there.

I Love Lucy is older than The Honeymooners and those look pristine. Paramount spent money on them. One can't expect that level of care to be taken with lesser series, however.

However, I've noticed the quality of audio on DVDs released by MPI, The Rifleman for example, is superb. MPI doesn't have nearly the money MGM has, but they have something else: *motivation*!

I've only watched the 1st episode of LIS and was pleased with the quality, I'll have to watch a little more to really judge. Not my favorite season, though, cause Dr. Smith isn't funny, but I want a complete set.

He gets funny - later in season 1.

Believe it or not Season One has an episode about "space hillbillies" during which Dr. Smith gives quite a performance. I see it as a foreshadowing of Season Two.

My boxset arrived today and immediately popped disc 1 in....

Wow! I'm extremely impressed with the audio and video quality of what I've seen so far. Keep in mind that I've never seen the VHS tapes or LaserDiscs, so I have nothing to compare it to.

But if the rest of the set is as good as this, I'm extremely pleased.
