Philip Marlowe - Powers Boothe TV show
Apparently this is being released in a couple of days by Goldhill who also issued the VHS tapes some time back. However, try as I might I cannot find a single detail of what’ll be on the discs. Additionally only 2 etailers even seem to be listing it:
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/redir...fier=GOL001914
http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click...rd&bfpid=39037
and neither has any more info than the number of discs - 2. Considering there were 11 episodes in total this would clearly be impractical for the whole thing (unless you’re Anchor Bay releasing Crime Story that is). I’m hoping against hope that it’s a 3 disc set at least with the entire run on and not just the 6 previously released episodes from the second season. $60 list does seem somewhat high for just 6 episodes.
Does anyone have anymore info on this?

Amazon.com also has a listing for this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...roduct-details
But not too many details. Their release date is about a month later, however.
(And you get a picture of maybe the cover art for the DVD.)

Here's a similar product put out by the same company on VHS.
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?PID=5350314
I would point out that the VHS item with artwork similar to what Amazon is displaying was 300 minutes (5 episodes worth). But, according to Amazon, the street price is $60! That would be insanely high for just 5 episodes.
On the other hand, there is another link to another product by the same company that's also listed as 300 minutes.
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinf...cart=172440086
So (crossing my fingers), maybe this DVD set is both VHS sets combined?!?!

Thanks for the info guys. I have bought a set from this company before and they do seem to think they can charge a premium for lousy packaging and short running times (Beiderbecke). In addition the "volume 2" tag makes me think it’s the inferior second season only. DDD’s price is cheap (comparatively) but still waaay too high if it’s a mere 5 eps.
Be ironic if it is just one season considering the combined price for both VHS sets is only $70 list!

I would be willing to bet this is second season only. No matter what day Goldhil says it will be released, it most likely will arrive six weeks after that date. I dont believe they have ever released
an item on the official release date. Speaking of Marlowe, Is anyone interested in The Dain Curse being released on DVD?

Amazon has updated their description briefly referring to "pair of cases", but it looks like the copy was directly lifted from Goldhil's description for a two episode VHS release listed here:
http://www.goldhil.com/catalog/phili...nish-blood.htm
So far, no listing on Goldhil's site for this DVD product. Since they did release all of the episodes at one point or another, and since there is no other Vol. 1 being listed, I'll just be hunkered down hoping that is both seasons in the set.

Only update - DDD now has an image for this item posted - looks like 3 cases are in the set. DVD Planet confirms 3 DVDs in set, but gives no more information.

The description on DDD indicates 6 episodes are in the set. If that's the case, it's definitely Season 2 only.
On the plus side, my copy has shipped from DDD. I'll post more details once I receive it.

Take a close look at the front cover art on DVD Planet. Enlarged view
http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_lis...037&format=DVD
1st disc says episodes 1-4 ,2nd is ep 5-8 and 3rd is ep 9-11
Jazzinator, I can't wait to see your post when DDD arrives.

My set arrived today - 11 episodes are in the set over 3 discs. The "special features" aren't very special - dolby 5.1 that sounded like 2.0 on my initial 2 min. investigation, full motion menus which are simply animated, and photo gallery of screen captures.
According to the IMDB listing of episodes ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096677/guests ) and http://epguides.com/PhilipMarlowePrivateEye/
, it also looks like the episodes are out of order. The run order is as follows:
Disc 1
Smart-Aleck Kill - Season 1, episode 5
The Pencil - Season 1, episode 1
Nevada Gas - Season 1, episode 4
Finger Man - Season 1, episode 3
Disc 2
The King in Yellow - Season 1, episode 2
Pickup on Noon Street - Season 2, episode 3
Guns at Cyrano's - Season 2, episode 4
Trouble is My Business - Season 2, episode #5
Disc 3
Spanish Blood - Season 2, episode #2
Blackmailers Don't Shoot - Season 2, episode 1
Red Wind - Season 2, episode #6
I haven't seen any of these episodes (tho' I've been searching for them for quite a while). The picture quality looks like it was ported from videotape to see the beginning of Smart-Aleck Kill. I'm just glad to have them in such a convenient form. Also, since I haven't seen them, I can't say whether this order matters. My recollection of the stories is that they all stand fairly independently except the final one (which I don't think is in this lot).
Overall, it's great that the set has both seasons so I'll have to be thankful for that.
