Aw, you took my answer. Today's political correctness would make this film a very problematic release today. Of course, a couple years ago, I would have said the same thing about Addio Zio Tom but thankfully Blue Underground came through on that one.

I wouldn't hold my breath for uncut releases of some 70s porn classics, like Gerard Damiano's Waterpower or Alex De Renzy's Femmes De Sade (these could definitely be considered "good" films in their genre, at least).

Bertolucci's The Conformist. Worse yet, it's not available in any region. I'm starting to suspect there's some bad blood between Bertolucci and Paramount. Newly struck prints toured cinemas a couple of years ago, so it's not like they have to go hunting for it...

BiffByford 01-06-04 01:40 PM

The Monster Squad

Tarantino 01-06-04 02:30 PM

what about Run starring Patrick Dempsey? I used to love that movie as a kid.

Jboone 01-06-04 05:38 PM

Hickey & Boggs
Lady Sings the Blues
Stormy Weather

when, when, when?

If...
O Lucky Man

Two movies I'd hoped for after the release of the far inferior third film in the trilogy. Still no word at all. Bummer.

It really hurts but:

White Dog
I have always wanted to see this but it is not available on any media. I really like Sam Fuller's work and it's a crying shame that this movie is being suppressed. I haven't seen it, but from what I have heard it really doesn't deserve the reputation that it has.

El Topo
One of Jodorowsky's finest works. Held in limbo because of a feud that he has with Allen Klein (the financier of the movie), this movie will probably not be made available before Jodorowsky's death.

Brewster McCloud
The most tragic in this short list. This is a movie that Warner Brothers has the rights to but refuses to release because it didn't sell well on VHS. Showing this sort of attitude towards important movies that may not necessarily be bestsellers is quite troubling to say the least. It has the potential to spell doom for things that might be popular on DVDtalk but not so much in the real world (like a full, all-inclusive Looney Tunes Boxed Set). It makes me sick to my stomach, I tell you.

The original version of Wild Side
This movie was butchered by the studio and Donald Cammell took his name off of the project. The original version has not been available for some time. Sad.

I fear I'll never be able to own:

The Emigrants (Utvandrarna) (1971)

The New Land (Nybyggarna) (1972)

two of the best "coming to america" historical epics ever put to film....I keep hoping to no avail that Criterion will announce a set with both films in their full original non-dubbed glory :(

That is pathetic.

Here is an all region one from diabolikdvd.com

I've ordered stuff there plenty of times, and have my VHS copy of a Japanese laserdisc from there(on my list of upgrades, but I don't watch my tape enough to justify it) but I'm eyeing up a tag team with The Holy Mountain.

Daytripper 01-12-04 08:20 PM

"The Hunger"

MrDs10e 01-12-04 09:29 PM

I'm losing hope for Taras Bulba

I know Richard Donner wants to do Radio Flyer, but the studio seems apathetic.

Random prediction: I bet Howard the Duck gets a DVD release by 2005...

The Passion of Beatrice
starring Julie Delpy

Paramount also screwed Bertolucci over his film 1900 which deserves a Region 1 release - uncensored in its full 311 minute NC-17 rated cut. Considering Paramount went into all the efforts to theatrically release the complete cut a number of years ago, this full version has never appeared on VHS, laser, or DVD for that matter. I get the vague impression, that Paramount wants to wipe its hands from this film as well.

The "director's cut" is available in Region 2.

I believe I heard Brownings' "Freaks" will be released on DVD in August by Warner Home Video.

I second Nightmare Alley - never made it to VHS, so I doubt we will see it on DVD. Wonderful movie.

I would like to see a widescreen DVD release of "Mandingo." Underrated film on slavery.

ArchibaldTuttle 01-13-04 03:54 AM

Virus Night of the Zombies
Zombie 90 - Extreme Pestilence
Stacy-Attack Of The Schoolgirl Zombies
Street Trash
Junk 1999

most of you probably think these movies are schlock, but I would buy them if they were available in R1

FYI, TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is showing this film uncut and in OAR on 1/20/2004 at 2:00 am Eastern if you don't already have it (or for anyone with a DVD recorder).
You sure about "uncut"? I thought TCM edited nudity, language, etc. from R-rated movies.
