Scarface

I'm really wanting to buy this movie on DVD. Is it worth it to spring the extra cash for the nice box set or save the money and just buy the movie itself? I know the box set has some stuff in it but that doesnt interest me much. I guess my question is the movie transfer itself, which version should I get? Thanks in advance.

BTW, I searched and found no pertinent answer.

if the stuff doesn't intrest you (cards, the original 1930's version w/ alternate ending), and a gold logo money pin) then just get the new version (be sure its the widescreen version). the transfer is miles better then the older version.

The box set also comes with the original 1932 film version of Scarface and it is currently the only way to get that movie.

Thanks guys. Is the 1932 film any good? Worth watching? I've found the box set at FYE locally for 39.99. That a good deal? Appears to be.

depends, its consitered one of the best of the early gang movies (along with angel's with dirty faces, and public enemy), but are you a fan of black and white movies? many don't because of the "stiff acting".

...the "original" Scarface starred Paul Muni, who was considered a Great Actor in his day, and starred in many Major 1930s movies, e.g. The Story Of Louis Pasteur, The Good Earth, The Life Of Emile Zola, Juarez...

. . . . . .

The only reason of getting the gift set would be the Scarface (1932) version. I really see no value in the money clip and the cards, nor would I guess anyone else.

If you're not into the original Scarface, go for the 2-disc De Palma Scarface....

My Scarface giftset is the prize of my dvd collection.
If you can get it for 39.99 you shouldn't pass that up.

The transfers are identical whether you buy the new two-disc or the big box version. (Although, technically, the two-disc is available in fullscreen or widescreen, where the box is only widescreen.) The two-disc version is included in the box in an entirely identical way to what you'd get if you just bought the two-disc version.

I've found the box set at FYE locally for 39.99. That a good deal? Appears to be.
No, most FYEs have it for 19.99 (after mail-in-rebate) until the end of the month, so it's not a very good deal to pay twice that.

I really see no value in the money clip and the cards, nor would I guess anyone else.
You're very wrong; the lobby cards sell on E-bay all the time. I'm not saying they sell for a lot or anything, but people buy them because they want them. I didn't want mine, so I got rid of them that way. But I do want the money clip. (Though people sell those too.)

Actually, if you didn't want the 1932 'Scarface', you could sell that on E-bay and make up the difference between the box and the regular DVD anyway (it goes for at least $20), and then you've got a sweet box too. Plus a money clip.
