Does the average DVD buyer care about commentaries?

I have over 1,000 DVDs, and the amount of commentaries listened to is the number of fingers on one of my hands.

I have given this some more thought. I actually prefer decent features over commentaries. They are usually more informative and more interesting because they are not tied to the length of the film.

No way Joe Six Pack cares about them.
Hell, I don't care about them. I'm a pretty casual movie fan and not really into learning about film making.
Plus I don't have that much free time, and have a plethora of hobbies besides watching movies, so if I have 2-3 hours to watch a DVD I'd rather watch a movie than listen to/watch a commentary.

commentaries are my favorite extra feature and one of the main reasons i like dvd. i listen to every commentary track i have (200+?) and it's often a deciding factor for me in buying the dvd. in fact sometimes i'll buy a dvd even though i don't like the movie that much because i know i will like the commentary.
i heard rules of attraction has a commentary with carrot top that i might buy just for that even though the movie itself doesn't look that good to me. the dude where's my car commentary sounds great too. i heard they rip on the movie the entire time.
i hope studios don't think everyone hates comentaries cause they will stop making them then no doubt.
there is a commentary track on the May dvd that is hilarious. it features the "craft food services guy", even though it's really some guy pretending to be one, he's really funny.

I think most people do not have the time to both watch the movie and then listen to the commentary. Personally, I like commentaries but I rarely get to listen to them because of the time involved in doing so.

I generally won't buy a dvd that doesn't have commentary by the director and/or significant cast members. I hate the majority of the behind the scenes crap which is generally just marketing material to be sent to "E!"...
