24 Season 1 UK version vs. US Version
Since I can't seem to do a search on the term "24", I have no idea if this has been discussed.
It looks like the UK version is 1041 min long and the US version is 999 min.
Why did they not give us the extra scenes that were cut to make room for the commercials, here in the US? There aren't many extras on the cd anyway. Why not simply give us the same version they give the UK, only in region 1 form? Has Fox said anything about releasing a version of Season 1 with more option and extras?
Would it be worth getting the UK version over the US version?
Thanks for any insight =)

Some people tend to forget that the Season One version of 24 came almost immediately after the first season was over...it was an attempt by Fox to pick up some viewers for Season Two. (24 came very close to being cancelled after Year One).
It takes a good six months to prep extras for a DVD, and FOX apparantly didn't make the decision to release Season One on DVD until well into 2002, which is why there are virtually no extras on the Season One set. Fox made up for it with Season Two, which is one of the best television DVD sets of 2003.

I can't account for the time discrepancy, but the UK version has only two or three scenes that weren't in the R1 that I think are significantly less than five minutes total.
Since they didn't air in the original US version, anyway, no need to sweat it.
(I'm enough of a 24 fan that I have both, anyway.)

I guess it was 90 seconds. Here is one thing I found
Early pressing of the DVD set contained ‘cuts’ to the last five episodes, as the US transmission was missing around 90 seconds worth of footage that was transmitted on the BBC, but removed to make way for extra advertisements in the States. For those fans that purchased early copies of the DVD set, and who want to see the episodes as originally shown on the BBC, they can send discs 5 and 6 back to Fox for exchange. The address to return your discs to is as follows.

Some misleading info there. Those running times are definitely wrong. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the DVDs at the moment to check the actual times. The UK discs only have a small amount of new footage added in, and since the PAL video format runs faster than NTSC the R2 DVDs will have an overall shorter runtime than the R1.
The US release wasn't "cut". The DVDs are exactly as they aired on American television. The UK has fewer commercials in general, and PAL video runs faster, so the show's producers decided to add in a few extra scenes for that market. Both versions are legitimate.

If you do live in the UK and are asking, you want to look for the following plot point in the final episode:
Spoiler:
