I got my first DVD player and DVDs for my birthday, so it's fairly easy to remember the birthday of my collection.

My first dvd was the LOTR: FOTR - Theatrical version. It was released in early August but I don't remember the exact date. I'm thinking it was the 8th. But was the eigth even a Tuesday? Ah well who knows.

Mine was 10 days ago, which I didn't even realize until I saw this thread.

My first DVD purchase was on 12/10/99.

My first DVD was "Apocalypse Now", purchased on May 6, 2000 (actually received in the mail on that date). Purchased my first DVD player a week before that and ordered the DVD from buy.com - back when HUGE discounts on DVDs were available everywhere!

So, if I can remember that date - May 6 - then I can celebrate my 4th anniversary on May 6, 2004! Doubtful that I will remember it though, or even really want to!

Out of curiosity, what do people do on their anniversary date - take your DVD collection out for a nice dinner? Take the cases off the shelves and give them a dusting or thorough cleaning? Update your DVD Profiler with the ones which ae missing? Check for delamination on every DVD? Or .....?

This Christmas will be five years since I got my first DVD player, though I refuse to refer to it in the same terms as I would my lady.

I'll throw up a flag on this. not much need for dusting. each of my "single" dvd cases are sealed in a re-sealable plastic slip cover. you can pick up 500 for 20 bucks....I've had several hundie custom made by a friend. it protects the case and the dvd from dust or anything else that could spell trouble. I do the same for my gear....mainly for the dvd players. I use regular dust covers for those and have them covered all the time...if I'm not watching a film.

no need to update. it's always done right when I walk in the door. otherwise...I'd forget.

it's easy to check for delamination. I rotate and cycle through my dvds. at least 2 or 3 times a week, I try to pick out titles I purchased early on. it's an ongoing project. I try not to look at it as "checking for delamination"....but as watching some good films that I have not seen in a long time!!

I started a couple days after Christmas 1998. I got a few extra bucks for a Christmas bonus and decided to spend the $389 for the low end Toshiba.
