Holy cow, that gift set looks very nice. I've never seen a display box like that included with a DVD before.

No Extras? (Not that it really matters. I just want this movie!)

From the Bits:

It's official folks! As we reported last week, Universal studios will release Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List on 3/9 (SRP $26.98). The single-disc set will be packaged in both Digipak and keep case packaging (the disc will be DVD-18 - dual sided, dual layered). Seperate anamorphic widescreen and full frame versions will be available, both with audio in English, French and Spanisg Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, as well as English DTS 5.1 audio (along with English captions and French and Spanish subtitles). To our knowledge, there will be no extras on this DVD. There will also be a gift set version available (SRP $79.98) that will include the anamorphic widescreen version of the DVD along with a coffee table book, the CD soundtrack, a senitype cell and a certificate of authenticity. Reportedly, this title is being co-marketed with the DVD release of the Steven Spielberg-produced TV miniseries Broken Silence, although we have no details yet on that.

Very classy cover art for a very powerful film.

EDIT: I heard from DVDFile that the DVD will contain a making-of documentary by Laurent Bouzereau.

Waaaaaaaaaay too much money for the extras the gift set includes. I'll stick with the $27 version.

What's the translucent box thing at the left of the picture with 6 of what seems to be silver dowels? Could it be the actual retail box of the gift set?

Do you think the gift set will gonna be a oversized box like Scarface or a smaller one like Seabiscuit?

Forget the gift set....i'll stick with the WS amaray presentation and use the money i'd save buying the gift set to purchase the 'Broken Silence' documentaries DVD.

You would think that after the wait and given the prominence of this movie that a 2 disc SE with several extras is warranted. But I am with you and am just glad to finally see this released.

this is a surprising development - hopefully not true but alas the film is a masterpiece and if the audio and video elements are reference quality it shall still be well worth it.

DVD is a 2-sided medium- deal with it. Otherwise buy 2 discs and print your own Full-Color Character Artwork to stick on them.
I do wonder though if this will have a forced trailer for "Animal House" before the movie starts though!

Thank goodness that it's not a "floating heads" cover.

I can guarantee you there will be at least one F*** up by Universal which may be one of the following:

1. Missing dialogue
2. Mis-framing
3. Case problem
4. Defective disc --- followed up with a defective "corrected" disc
5. Confusion on case indicating whether it's full or widescreen.
6. Forced trailers

Do we really need a DTS track for this movie?

All it does is needlessly spread the movie onto two sides.
