THX 1138 DVD in the works!
No date yet, but it's being restored apparently.
From theforce.net:
Haven't seen it myself, but thought some people here may be interested.
From theforce.net:
Teemu tells us that www.apple.com just released an article in their trailers section under īMac & Moviesī called Restoring Indiana Jones. On page two called īRemoving The Veilī, you'll find some interesting new developments inside of Lucasfilm:
But restoring films remains Lowry's main business. He's working again with Jim Ward and Warner Bros., just finishing a restoration of George Lucas' first film, "THX 1138." "After we saw what he could do with 'Indiana Jones,'" says Ward, "we definitely wanted back in the queue."
It seems to mean that a revamped and updated THX 1138 is coming to DVD in the near future!

Apparently, THX was severely edited by the studio before its release.

That's not to say that he won't continue to mess with the movie (this is Lucas, after all), but the current video version is the director's cut.

I forgot the DVD coverart.

It is a DVD, and pretty well packed with features considering it's an obscure title that probably won't set any sales records.
Video: 2.35 Anamorphic (restored by Lowry Digital Images)
Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1
Extras:
- Audio Commentary with director George Lucas and co-writer/sound designer Walter Murch
- "Theater of Noise" Isolated Sound Effects Track
- Master Sessions With Walter Murch
- "A Legacy of Filmmakers: The Early Years of American Zoetrope" New Documentary
- "Artifact From the Future: The Making of THX-1138" New Documentary
- "Bald" Vintage Featurette
- "Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138:4EB" Original Student Film
- Original Theatrical Trailer
