Wow, I find it hard to top 2003 - With Indy, Aliens, Vacation, and a ton of other titles that almost left me broke.
|
add this list along with the others that were out done the following year
"2000!! DVD is coming in!" "2001 - OMG!11 DVD year yo!" "2002 - are wallets are screwed" "2003 - biggest year ever!!" just another year with some big names. |
Eh. Every year has great releases. 2004's no different.
|
Hey..ya left out SUPERFLY!!!
|
Also, don't forget Freddy vs. Jason! :)
Is Gone With The Wind SE a sure thing? The thread on that didn't confirm it. |
Don't forget the Friday the 13th boxset either.
|
The only title on that list I'm interested in is Goodfellas.
However, January/February of 2004 has to be the greatest 2 months of DVD: Blow-Up Ingmar Bergman Collection (Persona / Shame / Hour of the Wolf / The Passion of Anna / The Serpent's Egg) Mon Oncle:CC and M. Hulot's Holiday:CC (back in print) City of God (Best film of 2003) Ed Wood Rules of the Game: Criterion Collection Ikiru: Criterion Collection Cyrano de Bergerac |

Aside from the ones already listed...
Winsor McCay: The Master Edition (Milestone) Nosferatu Ultimate Edition (Milestone) Allegro non troppo (Home Vision) Battle of Algiers (Criterion) Spies (Kino) Pagnol's Marseilles Trilogy (Kino) Any silent movie releases from Warner/TCM Floating Weeds (Criterion) It (Milestone) Any more releases of Milestone's ten volume early Russian cinema (Evangi Bauer and Ladislaw Starewicz, volumes 7 and 3 respectively, have been released) L'Age Dor (Kino) La Dolce Vita (Koch Lorber. But is it real?) Onibaba, Woman in the Dunes, Life of Oharu, or any other rumored Japanese film from Criterion |
I could give a flying act of copulation about Star Wars, I want a 5 disk MINIMUM ... DAWN OF THE DEAD BOX!!!
I expect excessive amounts of double dip releases this year. I'm hoping that the smaller weird genre releases will keep me in new viewing for this year. |
Of the many, MANY titles mentioned in this thread, the only one I'm the least bit interested in is Ed Wood. And maybe Aladdin. Oh, and I'll be picking up The Grapes of Wrath too, but only because it's part of the Fox Studio Classics series.
There actually aren't a whole lot of films I'm still waiting for on DVD, and of the ones I'm awaiting the most, none have been announced yet, or even hinted at. :( I'm looking forward to TV shows on DVD in '04 more than anything else. Rob |
Don't forget the original Star Trek coming in Box Sets finally and Voyager :)
Star Trek VI in anamorphic too! |

I have to disagree with this, for one reason: This year DVD players finally cracked the $25 price margin for a Progressive Scan/S-Video player. And I'm living proof, having just bought mine on a BF sale for 24.99 AR. With (any) new technology you need a certain threshold in your market to make it feasible to market the product. The distribution of our old, beloved classics, in particular, presents an additional challenge because it is extremely expensive in human labor and skill to remaster these films and press them into a 21st Century DVD form. The paradigm is further complicated because consumers aren't going to purchase DVDs unless they first have a DVD player http://www.intergate.com/~tobeornot2...AMA/yGADUH.gif and the Studios' greatest boon this past Black Friday was to witness millions of Americans, like myself, purchase the mechanism by which to take advantage of their product — a DVD player. ETILIM19 is correct, but not necessarily for the reasons he stated. http://www.intergate.com/~tobeornot2.../gWINKGRIN.gif In exploding this market by a factor of millions of DVD-player-owners, as was finally done this past month, the Studios are now going to be able to leverage the huge expense of remastering our classics against a market that will reward them with volume on a scale unprecedented (imho). And 2004 is when I predict we'll witness the shift from VHS to DVD as it thunders across American households newly outfitted with their first DVD player. Oh, and one thing that I'm not looking forward to, but which I'm afraid will be happening anyway, is the release of even more DVDs in fullscreen only. :( MGM and Columbia Tri-Star have already announced several catalog titles in fullscreen for next year, and I have a sinking feeling those are just the tip of the iceberg.

I think you guys are forgetting one important release:
TOP GUN:SE |
well that sucks...
|
Maybe this year I'll get my Boy Meets World DVD's?
Which I think is possible Disney has taken it off as a premiere show on Disney Channel, moved it to 1:30 AM and 2:30 in the afternoon, as compared to 3:30, 4:30, 10 to 11, and 1:00 daily A petition was started, then removed, but Buena Vista employees did listen. Lizzie McGuire stopped showing as much, and weeks later the first two Lizzie DVD's came out.. However, they could have just released season 1 on one DVD..and not two with no real order.... |
