Missing bits from Ben Stiller Show?

I may have been imagining things, but, when Comedy Central ran the BSS marathon several years ago, I could have sworn I saw a bit during the Oliver Stoneland sketch where an usher is directing some tourists through a JFK ride saying "Back and to the left, back and to the left".

I always loved that joke, but that bit isn't on the new DVD set. Anyone know anything about this particular clip or if anything else appears to be missing?

I'm disappointed to hear the OliverStoneLand sketch isn't there. I only saw the show when it first aired, and that's the only sketch that still sticks with me!

I loved the bloated animatronic Jim Morrison clutching a whiskey bottle "Death is the only way out... Death is the only way out... Death is the only way out..."

It is most definitely there, I just watched that episode last night. It was probably somewhere around episode 6 or 7, can't remember which, and I'm not near my DVDs right now.

I think wrinkleintime is saying the sketch is there but the section of the skit he mentions is omitted from it...

Oliver StoneLand is one of the best Ben Stiller sketches. I don't think anything was cut out, it still has the JFK part "Black is white, white is black..." of that skit.

I don't know if the Back and to the Left thing is from Ben Stiller, I remember it being in something, but I don't think it was the Ben Stiller Show. I may be wrong though.

"Back and to the left, back and to the left" was part of a popular Seinfeld episode where Jerry spoofs the JFK assasination.

That is what it is from. I was just going to post that.

That doesn't mean it wasn't also used on The Ben Stiller Show. The joke that wrinkleintime describes is very different than the way that Seinfeld used the line.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about Oliver Stoneland being in the set... the sketch is most definitely there, but I'm pretty sure that the "back and to the left" joke was also a part of that sketch. I wish I had access to all my old VHS tapes, because I have that marathon taped, but I boxed them all up and put them in storage.

I do remember the Seinfeld version of the joke, too... not the same, but still pretty funny.

"back and to the left" was also used to good effect on MST3K at the time. "Village of the Giants" episode starring Opie.

"Back & To The Left" was also in an episode of the Simpsons. Don't recall which one.

Again, it was on The Critic as well. Jay reviewed the extra long version of JFK.

Bill Hicks may have pioneered "back and to the left" as a comedy tool, as he'd been doing JFK stuff for ages.

I think you're right. If I recall, it was an animatronic Bob Odenkirk saying that with a pointer in his hand. My tapes are in storage, as well, so I can't verify it. But I seem to remember this part. Weird that they edited it, if so.

Bob says something different now, of course with all this back and to the left talk I have completely forgotten what he says. It is right before David Ferry says the "black is white and white is black" remark. Bob is in front of the diagram of the magic bullet with the pointer.

I don't recall a line like that coming from that sketch when it was first broadcast, but that was ten years ago and I don't remember so good these days. The copy of ep 6 I have on tape comes from the '99 Mystery Men promo tie-in marathon on FX. I compared it with the DVD and they're identical content-wise; there wasn't a line referring to "back and to the left" in the JFK part of the Oliver Stoneland sketch in FX's broadcast. Bob Odenkirk is playing an animatronic Kevin Costner as Jim Garrison, so he wouldn't be an usher at that point in the sketch. In fact, maybe there shouldn't even be an usher at that point in the sketch, since what we're seeing is supposed to be highlights from an attraction that hasn't opened yet. But at the same time, there is a crowd of people shown to be watching the displays just as they were in the other sections of the theme park. So who's got a tape of the original Fox broadcast or of the Comedy Central marathon to compare to the DVD?

It is one of the best sketch comedy shows. I don't know what to compare it to really. Basically the meat of the show is making fun of various shows on TV and commercials. It has probably the best cast of comedians: Bob Odenkirk from Mr Show, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Dick, and Ben Stiller when he was actually worth paying attention to. Highlights are Stiller's Bruce Springsteen and TOny Robbins (the infomercial guy)...very funny.

Now just "shut your stinkin' TRRAAAAAP" and buy the show Great value for the price.

This discussion makes me wish someone had assembled a "back and to the left" montage with clips from all these great shows.

What a fitting tribute that would have made during the recent anniversary of the assassination.
