Will Universal ever get there act together?
I can't remember the last time I bought something from the Universal Studios that was worth writing home about.Has quality control improved? Are they planning to release more older monster flicks?Have they pulled the plug on the original Law & Order series?Any big future releases?

All I can say is if they don't either send me ANOTHER "Meaning of Life" disc (the first replacement was crap) or at least an email/phone call/or normal mail notifying me that said disc is one the way (like they have done with other people) I will NOT buy ANYTHING else made by them. I have sent THREE emails in the last week and got no reply at ALL.
I'm serious. At this point they could buy out New Line and put the RotK EE out under the Universal banner and wouldn't touch it!

Universal stinks!
The only Universal Disc I have bought so far is the Back to the Future Trilogy and the morons still have to send me back the correct discs!!
I have vowed not to buy ANY Universal DVDs as there is nothing to write home about with their releases.

Hey, Universal may not put out the best DVDs, but they sit around with their thumbs up their asses better than anyone else!

UNiversal has been around for decades. All long-lived studios go through good times and crap times, depending on who owns them or who the CEO is.
When I got into DVD in 1998, Universal released some of the best DVDs out there. Now they're owned by the damnable French and they have gone down hill.
But someday someone else will own them and they'll be great again.

FWIW, Hulk ('03), the Incredible Hulk tv series set, and the Battlestar Galactica set all sport above average a/v and or content (some elements of BG are a little shaky, but it looks to be problems with the source- extra content is quite laudable for a vintage tv show).
i agree though, they are a mess and most of their effort in regards to catalog titles seem to be in the direction of twentysomethings with a depressing (to me) emphasis on 80's product.
-no vintage monster films (these movies would sell with or without a tie in to Van Helsing)
-apart from the two series already mentioned (which exist only because of more tie-ins), there is nothing in the way of their 70s tv product- no Night Stalker, no Bionic duo, no Rockford, no Columbo, no Night Gallery, no Buck Rogers, and on and on
-no film noirs0including any of the Ladd/Lakes
-no Demille-pre-code or otherwise
so much in their vaults just a-goin to waste...
and i doubt much will change with NBC taking charge

After the BTTF debacle i doubt very seriously i can ever look at a Universal DVD the same. I question if i should buy a DVD from them or wait for the corrected version to magically appear.

Personally, i don't pay attention to what studio is releasing what if its a movie i want to buy. As for Universal... they did some great things with their Collector's Edition line, and i havent had any problems with them.

I second The Thing re-release. This is my favorite movie of all time and I dont own this because its not anamorphic. It looks like I'll get Star Wars before an anamorphic version of The THing.
Universal really sucks now. I remember buying DVD's from them with full bit-rate dts, but now Im lucky to get dts on a title, Hulk and BTTF comes to mind.

Well, on my Back to the Future disc replacement I finally decided to get the corrected versions, after much debate and thread reading, and wrote them last week. The next day an email in my inbox from them stated that I would get my mailer by the end of the week. They also stated that I would get the replacement discs in a week or two.
The mailer came in today, about 5 days after I requested it.
Let us see if they are right about how long the discs take to get back to me.

Granted, the company has creative problems and quality control issues, but how can you swear off the company? Does that mean that if they have a title that you like, you won't buy/rent/watch it?
I mean...its not like you can buy Snatch or Scarface or whatever movie from some other company, for example.

Snatch is a Columbia Tri-Star title.
I've pretty much given up on an anamophic reissue of The Thing.
In Univeral's defense... Their Hitchcock titles are all pretty nice DVDs, even the non anamorphic ones. Of course, that's Hitch...
