That is a good sized collection. I am glad that you decided on DVD Profiler. While it may not be perfect, it is the best DVD database out there right now.

You may like it even more if you'd been regularly uploading your collection, as that means you can now download it and pick up right where you left off. Nice redundancy.

I always add new DVD's the day I buy them and upload immediately. This way my online DVD Profiler is always up to date in case of a computer problem.

DVD Profiler. I have started just going with my own Excel report lately, though.

Not meaning to go off topic(again), but I have a question for you, or anyone else using DVD Profiler. I tried to update my online profile, but when I went to upload my movies to it, I was told

"DVD Profiler is unable to upload your collection to the My Profiler system because the upload file system for free.(The "is" is left off on the message I get, and makes me wonder if they mean "because it's free" I'm just hoping it doesn't)

In order to upload your collection, you will need to reduce the size of the upload file by 35.3%

Make sure yours is up to date by refreshing your profile (I do this all time)

Reduce the number of locked profiles (I don't even know how to lock the profiles yet, not that I have tried to learn either)

Then some bla bla about the premium registration code"

Does this mean I have to purchase the premium registration, to upload my collection? If so, that sucks! Oh well, I still love having the program. Once again sorry to go off topic, but I figured I would catch someone while they were in here discussing DVD Profiler, and other similar programs

No. I haven't paid and my collection of nearly 700 DVDs uploads just fine. Sounds like you have a corrupt program install and/or database. Or maybe their server is playing up.

Thanks for the info. I don't have anywhere near 700 DVDs, so it must be somthing on my end. I'm going to go figure it out now.

It is not about numbers. Do you lock your DVD's? This takes up more space and reduces the size of your allowable upload. I recommend buying the premium key. It is worth it just to support a great database.

There's an "allowable upload"? I don't remember seeing anything about that.

Wizdar and others:

You might be surprised just what you might learn about DVDProfiler IF you participated in the IVS forums instead of trying to find answers here. However, for the record a free user is limited to a 500K Upload of your library. This is difficult to quantify in terms of number of films, due to the varying size of each film's file plus if you lock your titles to prevent unauthorized updating of a film your file will be much larger.

I wasn't sure what thread to put this in and I didn't feel it warranted a new one, so does anyone know of an organizer that allows you to list your collection by director? I use guzzlefish and dvd profiler but neither of those have the option.

I like DVD Profiler best. It has the largest DB. The only one that can track ALL my DVDs.

As far as I know, Movie Collectorz is the only one that allows sorting by director. I've never used it so I can't tell you how good it works (I use the music and book software by this company) but the other software works great IMO.

Can someone who uses DVDAficionado explain how you get titles in a certain order in a folder? Like their lists of examples they have the Criterion Collection in spine number order. I'd like to put my Hannibal Lector, Kevin Smith and Godzilla DVDs in proper release order.

Guzzlefish: Would be the best if they had more titles, especially R2, and updated more.

DVDAf: The easiest to read by far. If someone has more than one organizer posted, I always read this one.

DVDPr: The hands down best for the dvd owners themselves due to all the information provided. It also had the best database by far. Still, it can be a pain in the arse, and it isn't very visually appealing for folks wanting to browse your collection.

Guzzlefish could NEVER be the best because it is online only. You cannot access your collection database offline and if Guzzlefish goes under, so does your collection database.
