How rare is the DVD Flash Gordon?

I saw this DVD in a mom and pop store today, used, pretty good condition R1 Flash Gordon in the snapper box for around 10 dollars.

I doubt its a type of movie I would want to keep so it would basically be to sell or trade to someone who would care to want it.

I was just wondering how rare it is. If sells for like 20 dollars I doubt I'd bother buying it.

You can check ebay and see how much it goes for.

Also, on R2 it's pretty common. There's even a French CE. The R1 is not anamorphic.

This movie rocks! This movie is so 80's I even have it on CED! It did go OOP due to distribution rights chages, but will probably be released again like other titles which suffered the same fate.

I have seen it go for above $50 on Ebay...

I wish this film would get a full SE anamorphic re-release. A true 80's classic!

anamorphic release next year?

There's a small rumor that universal may release it soon, not sure about details yet on SE.

You can. The UK version is anamorphic and barebones. The French version is SE anamorphic but has forced subs.

Been trying hard to find this through the obscure route since it's OOP but no luck I'm avoiding Ebay for fear of getting a bootleg.

More specifically it went out of print due to Image's alleged violation of its agreement with Universal to maintain a specific retail price point. In other words, Image wasn't supposed to lower the list price, did, and Universal pulled Image's distribution license. Or so I understand it.

Close, but not quite.

Image's contract was up at the end of that year anyway. (That's why they lowered the list price... to maximize sales in the final months of the contract.)

Yes, Universal did sue over this (basically saying that Image was 'devaluing' their films), but that isn't why Image lost the rights. They were losing them anyway; the contract was up.

It's worth it for the Queen soundtrack alone.
