C.S.I.: Season 1 in Widescreen, Any news?
I have been scratching my head at one last gift to get my wife for Christmas, and she has been dying to get this set since it came out. I have been holding out because it isn't anamorphic.
Is there any new info on a re-release before I plunk down $50+ smackers on this P&S BS?

haven't heard a thing, and to be honest I don't think they would invest the $$$ to rerelease it in OAR given that its a box set. Cost would greatly outweigh the profits I'd think.
I've got it, sure I'd like it the right way, but the show is too good to not have imo.

I wouldn't think it would cost any more than current production. Just put in the code to make it anamorphic and slip it in under the radar. Just change the template of the box before the next production run. I just don't understand why it isn't AW in the first place.

I own it even though it is P&S. It still looks great. Did they originally show it on regular TV in widescreen - I don't think they did? I know it was broadcast in HD. I only saw it on regular TV so it is like OAR to me anyway.

When the set originally came out, there was some hoopla regarding the fact that it was not released in widescreen. At that time, the Paramount representative that occasionally posts in this forum (Martin Blithe, I believe?) stated that there were no plans for Paramount to re-release CSI Season 1 in 16X9 widescreen (unfortunately).
The show has been broadcast in 16X9 High Definition widescreen since its inception, though it has been simulcast in 4X3 on the regular analog signal. That being the case, I believe that most regard 16X9 as being CSI’s OAR. Someone has posted screen captures in the past, showing that indeed, CSI in 4X3 has been cropped on the sides.
I have not yet purchased Season 1, though I do have Season 2. I may break down and buy Season 1 eventually, especially if I can get it at a reduced price on eBay or a trade store.

Season 2 is 16x9, isn't it? It also has more extras, I believe. My wife wants S1/S2 for Christmas also, and she's started watching the series on our widescreen HDTV, so I don't know how much she'd like watching S1 in P&S [or how much I'd like buying it, on sheer principle].
How badly is it cropped? If it was simulcast in 4x3, you'd *think* they'd try to do something to not totally hose the image.
Of the two seasons, which do you think would be the better gift [I can't afford both right now--then again, with DDD's 20% off, maybe I can.]
What season is being shown now?
