King Kong 1933 on DVD?
Hello!
Can anyone tell me when KING KONG 1933 will finally be released in a fully restored, definitive dvd edition with all the goodies (i.e. 5.1 surround option, making-of documentary, commentaries by Fay Wray etc)? It is astounding that this truly classic movie is still not on dvd in any satisfactory way (nor are many other classic RKO titles). Please contact me at: [email protected] if you know. Thank you.
David

Deja vu ...
There's nothing but rumors at this point. It'll probably be out in 2004, but may be delayed until 2005 to coincide with the Peter Jackson remake.
Here's the discussion we had last month:

There's been far more than just rumors. WB has stated they are working on a special edition. It was to be released this year (the film's 70th anniversary) but it has been delayed due to then taking more time with the restoration.

Doesn't Universal own the rights? They do have a Kong ride at their parks.

are controlled by Warner Bros. Warners got the rights when they purchased Turner. The 1970's remake of King Kong released by Paramount did not include the original 1933 film. This is not the same as say
Showboat which was made in 1929 and 1936 by Universal and then remade again in 1951 by MGM. When MGM did their remake
they bought the rights to the earlier pictures.
Universal probably licenses the name of King Kong for the Theme Park just as Disney licenses Indiana Jones for its ride at Disneyland and stunt show in Orlando which use the Indiana Jones name.
