The Thrill of the Early Hunt!
I have had much success finding titles early. Not so much with the big studio releases, but in terms of TV on DVD and a few lesser movies. I love the challenge of trying to find titles early.
I've managed to find early:
CSI S2
Buffy S2, S4 (twice), and S5
King of the Hill S2
The Two Towers: EE
Alien Quadrology
Great Balls of Fire
Angel S2
Friends S5
The Godfather DVD Collection
Haven't always bought them when I found them, though.
Anyways, what have you managed to find early?

to be honest...I dont go hunting for releases that have been shelved early. buying 10+ dvds a week is plenty...and too many of these would shake-up my system. the only thing I remember buying that I found early, was the first release of Escape From NY....2 weeks early at Borders. found it by accident and just had to have it.

I got Shrek 2 weeks early
I got Buffy Season 2 a week early.
Jeepers Creepers, Dances With Wolves, Star Wars Episode 2, Spider-man, Fellowship of the Ring, Spacejam: SE and Ben Stiller Show I've all gotten about a week early. There has been a few titles I've seen out before street date but didn't want them (hot chick, bringing down the house, looney tunes premiere collection).

I do LOVE and always search for titles early.

Just a couple of months after I started collecting DVDs, my boyfriend surprised me with Addams Family Values for Valentine's Day, which he'd found at Suncoast about two weeks before it was supposed to be released.
Ever since then, I've enjoyed finding DVDs out early. I used to have quite a bit of luck finding them at Best Buy, but not recently. Some that I've found early are:
Further Tales of the City
Friends: Season 1 (I had already pre-ordered it though)
Friends: Season 2 (found it at Wal-Mart, but they wanted $60 for it)
Berlin: Intimate
They Live
King of the Hill: Season 1
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 4
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Groundhog Day SE
Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Mommie Dearest

The only one I have attempted to buy early was Cheers Season 2 at Costco about a week before the release. They had it shelved and everything, but when they went to ring it up they said I couldn't buy it, as it was not supposed to be out yet, and they could get into trouble.
We went back and forth, but they wouldn't budge.
Aside from that episode (which still ticks me off), I usually get pre-orders from places like BB.com and DDD a day or two before the actual release, but nothing too noteworthy or noticable.

I went to Wal-Mart a couple days after Christmas and found a box full of "American Wedding's." Of course they were the rated versions, full screen, too, so I passed.
The only DVD I've ever bought before it's official release date was the Mr. Bean set. I found that at FYE 5 days before it was supposed to be out.
