Yes. Ric Easton is very talented
At least you made an appropriate response. And that is at least one thing we can agree on. Thank you.

What? Are you the PC police now? I always have the appropriate response. If someone has talent, I tell them so. If they don't.................well, you get the picture.

If you dont like negative responses on your work, then dont post them in a public forum.

Well lately you have been making IMO inappropriate responses to some of my postings. This is something I've been "commenting" on in response to those postings. I'm not anyone's behavior police. The comment about making an appropriate response was actually a compliment, but apparently because of the negative feelings you appear to harbor against me you apparently could only see negativity in the comment. When I invite comment on my work I hope the response will be constructive. You simply don't appear to be able to respond to my work in that manner. Too bad. I even have downloaded a lot of your covers because I find them to be excellent covers, especially the Jaws covers. Despite our differences, I'm not holding a grudge.

I'm not going to expend any more energy on this matter in my thread. If you feel the need to continue the "conversation", it will be without any further response from me. I've said my piece.

I made 2 comments only. I also used to give you constuctive criticism which you never took. So please do not act like I never tried to help you, you simply didnt want to "change your artistic style" as I remember you putting it. So be it. I will not bother your threads.

moving on....

Drag, I have found a couple of websites with some Voyager pix here and there, nothing too impressive.

http://www.trekconnection.com/art/teklord.asp
http://www.starbase34.com/wallpaper/

Alot of the stuff is the same from www.desktopstarships.com but there may be one or two pix you can use. How are they coming along?

I noticed that you deleted all of your Voyager posts from my DS9 thread over at the HTF. That was certainly unneccesary. Now anyone reading the posts won't know what others are talking about! I should not have opened my mouth about starting your own thread... Even with the added "LOL", I guess I hit a nerve.

I hope you don't feel I was chasing you out, or that I have gone back on my word saying that I may not do covers until all seasons are released. I just couldn't resist playing around on the computer (When inspiration hits... I gotta go with it). I may end up releasing them sooner than later... who knows?

As for...
I simply don't stand a chance against artists of your stature & reputation.
Thanks, but truthfully, with these continuing spine shots I have felt more like a one trick pony. I certainly don't have the volume of covers as many other folks that are into this strange hobby.

Keep experimenting around with Photoshop and find out what it can do... Without getting involved in the bruhaha, I can see the improvement in your work. You'll find that sometimes designing by commitee can be frustrating... other times very helpful. In the end, you ultimately you should design these to make yourself happy.

As for the animosity between you and Darth, please forgive me but I'm choosing to stay out of it.

It is not you chasing me away. I deleted all the posts because it is pretty apparent to me that the people responding CLEARLY prefer your cover art to anything I can produce. And I should not have intruded, despite your kind offer to continue posting. That's OK because I think of it as a very, very big bonus when anyone uses my covers.

That's what I’ve always done.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. I think I have improved some, but certainly not up to your level. I find that most constructive criticism is very useful & I use the suggestions. But I ultimately reserve the right to use or not use the suggestions as you or any other person does. The comments about the spine helped a great deal & it really turned out better.

You're one of the very few people on this Forum who doesn't consider me a pariah. There is no point in you getting on his bad side by openly siding with me. I'm able to stand alone against his animosity quite well. And I'm pretty sure he won't be able to resist adding another comment real soon despite his saying that he'd stay away from my threads.

I'm in a holding pattern waiting for the Voyager cards I got on eBay to arrive so I can check out the quality & usefulness.

Is the paper effect on the back of the LOTR covers something you scanned or did you create it. If it is something you created, I’d appreciate a tutorial on how to do that. And while I’m asking about Photoshop tutorials, I’m sure that you have seen the M-G-M Midnite Double feature covers Ric, do you have any idea how they accomplished the torn & folded poster effect on some of the covers. Any info about that would be appreciated.

Again, thanks for everything.

I am by no means an expert in that paper effect. As a matter of fact, I have asked in another forum how they do that rolled up edge thing. I think it must be a Photoshop plug-in.

What I did on the LOTR covers was something like this. Made a brownish rectangle then used the eraser and or lasso tool to cut away the edges. I gave it the texture with a plug-in called "Splat" It has several more choices than Photoshop's textures, although I'm sure you can do it in PS (I just don't know how). I then took the burn tool and darkened the edges a bit. For a picture on top of it, I try to color match as best I can. Then I use a soft edged eraser to get rid of hard edges. I then reduce that layer's opacity.

If there is text on top of all that, I may take the eraser tool and lighten parts of the pic even more, so that the text shows thru ok.

I'm sure there are any other and probably faster ways of doing it, but that seemed to work for me.

I've also toyed with the idea of scaning a crumpled piece of paper and trying to blend that in... I haven't tried it yet though.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see what I can do with it. If you ever find out how to do that "rolled up edge" effect please pass it along. If I come across it, I'll send it your way.

The "Voyager" cards have arrived. The are smaller than I anticipated. I'll have to try scanning them at a higher resolution, such as 600 to 800 and see how the look when I reduce their resolution to 300 & enlarge their. If I can't get satisfactory images out of these cards then I'll stick with the images I've posted above. I think that I'm not going to get ahold of better images unless someone really surprises me some.

UPDATE: Unfortunately even the largest image on the cards is not large enough to work at the size I need them at. I'll stay with what I have.

You generally cannot use an image smaller than an actual DVD cover, unless of course the image is supposed to be smaller. Rule of thumb is for scanning, you cant make it larger than it actually is.

I thought I'd see what image looked like, even though from past experience, I knew that "upsizing usually doesn't work. Not lost but a little of my time & a few bucks. Thanks for the reminder.

It now appears that some of my ideas regarding this project were not so bad.

Did I miss something?

Yes, about a month ago I previewed a Voyager set at the HTF, which has yet to be finished. It also uses an LCARS type of layout and a big honkin' Voyager!

Seeing that my DS9 set featured a slight cardasian motif, I thought it logical that Voyager might show off more of a Federation look. If the idea smacks of copying you, than I humbly apologize. It was not my intention.

If you are talking about something else... then, nevermind! I just don't see any other posts about Voyager covers. There is a new cover over at DVDCA, but I don't see any resemblance.

Best regards,
Ric

There are no problems Ric. My feelings were spelled out in the Private Message I sent you at the HTF. This Post was meant for other eyes more than yours, but since you are the only person who usually looks & comments on my posts in this thread I'm not surprised.

Don't worry, I'm overwhelmed & very honored any time that you even think any work of mine is worthy of being copied or imitated in the slightest manner. One day soon I'll delete this thread & then only we will know.

Dragonslayer,

I really like the ship spine with the green background the ship's registry number under the VOYAGER title. That really looks nice!!!
