LOTR TTT:EE freezes

Hi,

I have purchesed TTT:EE yesterday.
When I play Disc 1, and get to the scene where Aragorn is looking for traces of the hobbits next to the heap of massacred orcs; my DVD player will freeze if I do fast forward. Also, jumping from this scene to the next chapter freezes my player.
Did anyone have similar issues with the disc?
Thanks,
Kovax

Please, people. If you are going to post your experience, good or bad, you need to indicate what brand and model of DVD player you have (thanks, jekbrown! ). The problem may be brand- or model-specific, and the only way to figure it out is to know what kind(s) of players are having problems.

[edited to add]

I have two DVD players (a 3 year old Sony S360 and a Panasonic CP-72 changer) and a Sony 510A DVD-ROM drive. Here are my observations.

First, it should be noted that the scene at the massacred orcs (chapter 12) is not the layer change. The layer change occurs at the beginning of chapter 15, just before Gimli says "Orc blood".

As far as my players go, neither standalone player had any problems with the disc. Both chapter 12 and the layer change worked fine. However, I did experience something odd in my DVD-ROM drive with PowerDVD. In chapter 12, just after Aragorn says "They ran this way" (about time mark 37:32), the video freezes for 2 seconds, but the audio continues to play normally. After that, the video resumes at the correct frame, and there were no other problems.

So, it does appear that there is yet another DVD authoring problem for The Two Towers, and it does appear to be very player-specific. I wonder how long it will be until we get yet another toll-free number to call to get instructions for a disc exchange.

I played the TT:EE (disc 1) on WinDVD Platinum, and it played ok at these scenes. I also put it in my Sony DVP-S7700, and it played just fine. No video freezing around between 37mins - 39mins.

It freezed then played 3 or 4 times on my JVC SB500BK.
This was on the 1st disc after the layer change.

I noticed some static noise at that spot (orc massacre) today on my JVC S500BK. No visual anamolies occurred though. It only lasted a second.

Anybody note the exact time it happens? I'm wondering if it does it every time and if it's present in both DD and DTS (I actually think DD is the better track on this one... the bass is a helluva lot lower anyway).

I tried it this evening in my XBOX. I also had freezing the same spot as vargat. And then again during the scene where Gollum was leading Frodo and Sam through the bog, as well as when the flying ringwraith appeared.
I stopped watching after that.

On my Sony S360, every disc stops and stutters when on layer 2. Keep in mind it may really be the player, not the disc. Mine will be replaced soon.

I also played my copy through an HTPC with PowerDVD and the video froze at the exact spot you are talking about, but the audio played normally. I also seem to recall that happening in a couple other places. I would rewind and play it again to see if it would reoccur. It did several times, but then played through cleanly. I may see if I need to update PowerDVD.

I haven't watched it straight through yet, but I skipped ahead to Chapter 12 and 15 and they both play fine on my Toshiba SD-3900

Everything's fine on my Sony DVP - NS715P which I've had for about a year.

No problems at all on a Panny RP62, a Panny F85 and a Sony 330.

I would second RoboDad's post and say that 9.8 times out of 10 this kind of problem is always player related. Always post what kind of DVD player you're using, it's the first place to start before you place the blame on the DVD and helps to establish if it's a player specific problem.
