Question about Alien 3 Special Edition (Possible Spoilers)

It's not out yet, but would anyone happen to know if the special edition of Alien 3 ends differently? I don't normally want to know how a movie ends, but my reasoning is that I don't particularly like parts 3 or 4, and am hesitant to buy the entire boxed set unless the stories in these special editions are vastly improved.

I remember reading when Alien 3 came out that,
Spoiler:
in the end, Ripley originally survived. Yet, Fincher wanted to reshoot this. Sigourney Weaver was so upset about having to shave her head again, she insisted the only way she would reshoot the ending was if she was killed - supposedly guaranteeing she would be free of the Alien franchise forever.

I'm sure if there was a different conclusion like this, the film would still have its flaws (primarily right from the start). But I still think a nihilistic Fincher-type ending is totally wrong for this movie, so a different one on the DVD would be an improvement.

Anybody know for sure?

I have heard that in the extended cut of the film that has been assembled
Spoiler:
Ripley still does die in the end. The added footage supposedly adds a lot of character exposition, but doesn't change the overall storyarc much.

I don't know how accurate my source is on this, but this is what I've been told.

Which just goes to show all actors (or people in general probably) can be persuaded w/ the right amount of $$$

BTW, quick question, are the original theatrical releases going to be on the DVDs as well?

Rypro is correct, that was the stipulation for the movie.

I can confirm that the ending is essentially the same. We do get different footage for the climactic scene, though. Without giving anything away, there's nothing writhing in her hands as it happens. It makes for a less-obvious scene. Works better.

Thanks, Jason. Since I knew you had already seen it, I was hoping you would be able to give the definitive answer on that one.

I guess what I heard years ago was false. But I do remember hearing about an alternate ending that test audiences thought was ridiculous.
Spoiler:
(Ripley survives after the alien bursts from her chest, and despite her injuries she somehow manages to pick it up and throw it into the molten metal below.)
Definitely sounds a little crazy, so maybe it was just a pre-internet rumor?
