It's not out yet, but would anyone happen to know if the special edition of Alien 3 ends differently? I don't normally want to know how a movie ends, but my reasoning is that I don't particularly like parts 3 or 4, and am hesitant to buy the entire boxed set unless the stories in these special editions are vastly improved.

I remember reading when Alien 3 came out that,

I'm sure if there was a different conclusion like this, the film would still have its flaws (primarily right from the start). But I still think a nihilistic Fincher-type ending is totally wrong for this movie, so a different one on the DVD would be an improvement.

Rypro is correct, that was the stipulation for the movie.

I can confirm that the ending is essentially the same. We do get different footage for the climactic scene, though. Without giving anything away, there's nothing writhing in her hands as it happens. It makes for a less-obvious scene. Works better.

I guess what I heard years ago was false. But I do remember hearing about an alternate ending that test audiences thought was ridiculous. Definitely sounds a little crazy, so maybe it was just a pre-internet rumor?
