I'll probably pick up this along with the Japanese release. The Japan print of the film is definitely superior in my opinion, but it did not have English subs for the Japanese dialogue (but naturally had Japanese subs for the English dialogue). The Japanese DVD may possibly have optional English subs (which might end up subtitling ALL the dialogue) but could very well just have Japanese subs.

The fight scenes were all in color? If so I'm getting the Japanese DVD,also.

I never say this, but I dont care if I wind up paying $60 when the dust settles......I will HAVE to have this on release day, then Vol. II and then the box set whe and if it materializes down the road. This is my favorite movie of the last few years or I'd never be happily knowing I will be doing the big double dip.

Nothing annouced yet. Kill Bill was released theatrically about 2 weeks later in Japan compared to the US. Your best bet is to keep checking www.cdjapan.co.jp . When a Japanese release is announced, they should have it up for presale with a release date.

If you're interested in finding out when the R2 Japanese Kill Bill v.1 DVD will come out, you can sign up for an email reminder at Amazon.co.jp:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...919082-0123516

plus if you want to find out when R2 Japanese Kill Bill v.2 is going to come out, you can sign up for the reminder here:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...919082-0123516

Also, for those interested, there's also a Kill Bill "mook" available:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...919082-0123516

Mine hasn't arrived yet, so I can't give any descriptions

I picked up the above "mook" (title translated into English: "Kill Bill and Tarantino Movie Insider"). Its pretty cool with some nice colour photos. There is tons of text but its all in Japanese of course. Too bad, because there seems to be lots of info, including interviews with much of the cast and crew, "making of" details and articles on films that have influenced Tarantino. Even better IMO, there is also a very nice Kill Bill film program available. It is a larger format than the above mook (but less pages) and has excellent stills and behind the scenes photos (it retailed for 800 yen at Japanese theatres, so maybe you could pick one up for between $10-15.00 on ebay and such).

This is going to be one of, the very few, movies I'll need to get damn near every version of... Or at least give each one some serious consideration.

Definately a must buy, but I doubt I'll get two copies. I'm not sure I want to wait for the set though...

Well I guess the Japanese version will not be too cheap, maybe $40-50 if we are lucky. but worth it for the extra uncut scenes and non black and white stuff as well.

How have your experiences been with ordering from cdjapan.co? I've never ordered any R2 discs from Japan. If they're good, I'll pick up the entire Powerpuff Girls series at the same time Kill Bill comes out.

I've ordered from them several times and have received great service and fast shipping. Absolutely no complaints here. Their shipping fees and an additional handling charge can be kind of pricey though. Thats why some prefer to use amazon.jp, where prices work out to be a bit cheaper, but cdjapan is more user friendly for those who can't read Japanese very well.

CDJAPAN are a bit nasty, you pay postage and over here we get charged a fortune by Customs!

I and many others use YESASIA.COM if you buy a few its free postage and I have never been caught by customs.

Thanks for the info. Not too worried about the extra charges in this case, as I rarely ever order anything from Japan.

yeah but for us in the UK extras charges can be massive! for a dvd that cost me $40 I was charged over $20 Customs charges to get my parcel back! so thats $60 for a $40 dvd!
not sure if you have customs charges where you are, but any company that lets parcels get caught are a no go for me and many others.

Still I guess if the dvds were the same in every country then we wouldnt need to shop abroad. but thats never gonna happen.

I should probably check over in the international forum for this, but it's a quickie: Most of my non-R1 discs have been from the UK (amazon.uk & bensonsworld) and I havent noticed any of these additional charges or customs problems? Is this up to the shipping company to decide? If my disc from Japan is going to be held up in customs, I certainly would want to avoid that.

i'd be surprised if Tarantino doesn't release the unrated version (like the one that's being shown in Japan) in R1.

Also, i bet we won't be able to order the japanese version from an amercan site because miramax will make it illegal to do so like with all other forgien movies they own.

It is not illegal to buy a non-region-1 dvd.

I believe he was referring to Miramax's practice of coercing the vendors that they do business with NOT to make an R2 available from a Region 1 retailer.
