Star Wars OT - September 2004!

From Digitalbits:

Well, we've finally heard from our sources on that meeting that Lucasfilm held yesterday at the Presidio with their retail partners. Here's the skinny, and you guys are gonna love it... Star Wars: Episodes IV, V & VI are coming to DVD in September of 2004. The animated series of Clone Wars shorts appearing soon on the Cartoon Network will also be released on DVD, possibly before the end of this year. The teaser campaign for Episode III will begin in January of 2005, leading up to the May theatrical release. Finally... Episode III will hit DVD in November of 2005. This is going to be all over the Net soon, and you can already read more about it at Ain't it Cool News. Keep in mind that none of this is official until Lucasfilm publically announces it... but this is certainly, at long last, the real deal.

Great news!

Now is the time to turn up the heat on including the ORIGINAL THEATRICAL VERSIONS of the original trilogy on DVD.

Future generations will never forgive us if we don't convince Lucasilm that these need to be preserved.

Great News !! Now lets hear from all those who hate Star Wars...

A few questions come to mind here:

Will it be SE, OE, or some crazy new edition?

Will it be set up like Indiana Jones? 4 Discs - 3 for each movie and 1 for bonus features.

Either way, I am excited, but Lucas should handle this release really carefully.

Great news!

They will be the SEs with a few addtional tweaks.

While I don't see it happening, if I was George Lucas I'd do it just to see the Star Wars fandom collectively shit their pants.

I agree.

In fact, the SE's are not even considered SE's anymore --- Lucas has removed that title from the current VHS release.

Does this mean that Howard will be out in the near future? :D

Well, the best news would be some hint that the OT will eventually see its way to the market, but this will do for now.

I hope they come in individual case that will look nice next to Episode I, II & III

No original theatrical versions = No sale!

porieux 11-06-03 06:36 PM

Well if they aren't the theatrical versions then I won't be interested :(

Ranger 11-06-03 06:37 PM

I'm so happy. :D

Kal-El 11-06-03 06:37 PM

Not gonna believe it until I see an official Press Release. Not until then. Great news though if true.

pray for seamless branching people.

Dazed 11-06-03 06:41 PM

Its bound to be the 'not so' Special Editions.

Oh well, Im more interested in Lord of the Rings now anyway.

ho hum.....

Deadman31 11-06-03 06:42 PM

I don't understand why they cant just put the original theatrical versions on the other side of the DVD. I hate the SE's and now they are gonna add more buffoonery. Ill buy but Im not happy.

Yes, but not just any inserts. The original inserts have been upgraded to a SE Instead of being on paper they are etched into the case itself, in Swahili. According to Lucas, this is his vision.

And if he he did, it would be every bit his right.
