Are all movies available in widescreen?
I usually buy my own dvd's but as people are asking me what i want for my birthday and Christmas(mainly my mom) im hesitant cuz i dont like getting stuck with fullscreen and my mom isnt good at following instructions lol.Im mostly just putting the comedy movies on my list so if its fullscreen its not as bad as a sci-fi or action flick where i feel im really missing out on the scenery.Anyway are movies like Breakfast Club,Ferris Bueller and older movies like that available in both formats cuz i dont remember seeing widescreen versions of them?
Sorry if this is common knowledge here as im am a newbie

Unfortunately, not all movies are availible in widescreen (WS), but, luckily for you, the ones that you listed are. As a matter of fact, I don't believe that Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller's Day Off are even available in full frame (FF)!
Two recommendations:
1) If you are going to go for The Breakfast Club, go all the way and get High School Reunion Collection (The Breakfast Club / Sixteen Candles / Weird Science)
2) Set up a wish list at Amazon, DeepDiscountDVD, Buy.com, etc. and send your "gift givers" to it when they are looking for something to give you. That way, you can specifiy exactly which release/format/set/etc. it is that you want.
Good luck, and enjoy the forum!

Good call on the Amazon wish list. That takes the guesswork out of it, and the store will keep track of what's already been bought.
Unless, of course, you're giving a list to people who don't shop online much (or at all).
I guess UPC codes would be out of the question, eh?

Spies Like Us is gonna be released for the first time in Europe early next year. Hopefully, and most likely, it will be in widescreen. Make sure you've got a region free dvdplayer by then.

For the ones with separate WS/FS versions and/or multiple in-print versions (like titles for which there is a Special Edition or Superbit available) where you would choose the one you want to get, buy those yourself. Just to let you know how easy it can be to get the wrong one, we get posts on this board all the time where someone says "I accidentally bought X title in FS!" and these people know what they're doing (I think ). So, just to be safe, it would be best not to ask for something with separate WS/FS versions. There should be enough "safe" titles to ask for.
If you're not sure, post a list of titles you want and I'll tell you what's available for each one.

Q: Are all movies available in widescreen?
A: ...well... movies such as Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Gone With The Wind, Citizen Kane and Casablanca are available ONLY in fullscreen...fortunately...
...and, btw, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is indeed available on an anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD...

It's easy to be spoiled by Dark City - it's a great disc. Listen to the commentaries - they're among the best DVD has to offer.
