Why do some of you list your collections on multiple sites?

I think that Guzzlefish has everything I wanted, but some of you have your collections posted in multiple places. Just curious to hear your reasoning for that.

I use both DVDTracker and DVDAficionado because they each have features the other doesn't, and together, they have pretty much everything I need/want.

I like the way DVDTracker lets me sort my collection so recent purchases are at the top, and that I can track how much I've spent, along with monthly totals, averages, etc. I like the way DVDAficionado lets me put my collection into subfolders, so the pages don't take so long to load, and the mini cover scans.

I tried DVDProfiler and Guzzlefish, but didn't really care for either of them.

1. DVD Profiler: I like the look the best, plus it is both local and online (so if it goes out of business, I still have my list), plus it allows me to export them to an excel file (which I use to track what I watch).

2. DVD Af: I like the categories, plus incredibly easy to import from DVD Profiler (just copy the names from that excel spreadsheet)

3. Guzzlefish: I like the stats, and I like that it includes my music and videogames.

If one (or even two) goes down for good, I'll still have my list.

Also, people have their own preference; by having all three and sticking them in my sig, if someone does want to check them out they can pick which one to use.

Although I have a Guzzlefish (and DVD Aficianado) account, it's not very helpful to me since I have a large number of DVDs that aren't listed there (especially non-R1 relaeses). For that reason, I mainly use DVD Profiler. Since no online DVD collection software is ideal for each person, many of us use more than one. (Only my Profile account is in my signature.)

I only use DVDProfiler but have thought of using Guzzlefish also.

Sheer vanity...

Actually...each of the three has something I like. Aficionado has the best look at your overall collection, Profiler gives you the best lowdown on the individual titles and Guzzlefish has the music section, which I really like.

Well, you could use Guzzlefish and not put anything in but your music selections . . .

As for my listings I use Guzzle and DVD AF because:

DVD AF
1) Great selection of available DVD releases
2) I like the whole "Wish List", "On Order", Owned", etc. designations
3) I like the count on DVD AF best

Guzzlefish
1) Basically just the stats

Speaking of which, I need to go update them with my newly arrived "Dragonslayer" WS . . . I love that movie.

I list in DVDProfiler, since it has the most info about a release and I can use it to print out lists even while offline. I'll always use this or something like it.

DVDAF and Guzzlefish are both nice in different ways - I like the presentation and counting at DVDAF, and I like Guzzlefish's stats. If DVDAF started using stats like GF, I'd drop Guzzlefish in a heartbeat.

And I like how with DVDAF I can add multiple titles at once and just check things on a single page. It's even faster than DVD PRofiler for adding new titles.

I use DVDProfiler because it has the largest database. Some of the more exotic titles are not in DVDAF or Guzzlefish.

I like Guzzlefish because of the stats and that it can track my music CDs.

And I like DVDAF for the web layout.

I use Profiler because it's local

DVDAF because it's online (in case my computer crashes or there's a fire)

Guzzlefish because of the stats and the music

I use an Excel spreadsheet and my own webpage as my main tracking tools, but it's good to have them listed in other places as well, since you never know when one of these sites decide to fold up and take your info with them.

I only use dvdaf. I despise Guzzle for the fact that "genre" is a complicated word there. you may find Blood Freak listed under educational or general interest...which throws the stats way off. never did like Profiler. I donate to dvdaf and I'm a preferred user.

I like the stats at guzzlefish... I am not personally concerned with the genre stat though... I really like the tally of most collected actors, directors, etc... though these are not entirely accurate either because of the way box sets are counted, etc. I also like the overall look of guzzlefish the best (when viewed with thumbnails as linked in my sig), but dvdprofiler has some very slick features... like the export to excel, graphs, etc. I keep hearing people say that they really like aficionado but I haven't gotten around to trying it and I may not just because I don't really want to have to re-list them again... although I noticed that someone said I could copy the names from the exported dvdprofiler spreadsheet and paste them in aficionado (all at once?) so I may yet give it a whirl... who knows, but yeah... they all have things that appeal to different people and to the same people in different ways.

lisadoris, you can upload your DVD Profiler to the web too and use the web site as backup.

I had a computer crash once and it was very easy to re-import my collection for DVD Profiler from the web. It even kept my notes.

gutwrencher, what does being a "Preferred Member" get you from DVDAF? I've been meaning to donate for awhile now.

Yup . . . it's as simple as that . . . infinitely more easy than the initial set up at Guzzlefish (don't know how it compares to DVD Profiler, though . . . have never used it).

Yea I know (and I actually do upload my collection) but I think DVDAF looks better though it takes longer to view over my pitiful 56k modem.

I like the simplicity of DVDAF as well. You might want to disable images in your preferences to get a quicker download (unless the covers are what you want to see, obviously).

Well... decided to try aficionado... found one thing that I REALLY dislike right away.... The fact that it only allows one of each "title" to show up in my collection... it only allows me to list "the doors" the movie or "the doors collection: collectors edition"

I'm not thinking too good today, I guess.....what do you mean? that it wont let you have BOTH these titles in yer collection?

got it under control gut.. false alarm... I thought based on the notice that I read and it finding both as a match for the listing "the doors" from my dvdprofiler list that would be the case, but it looks like I was wrong... thanks though

edit: finding lots of holes in their database though (just like profiler and guzzlefish)... only found region 2 versions of mullholland drive and I have region one... one of many weird examples... no spawn animated or spawn 3... only live action, spawn 2 and the box set

I still think profiler has the most complete database and is better for most people

I just call myself that, for a few reasons. I noticed after I donated a few times...that I get faster service when submitting new titles that are not in the database. before, it would sometimes take a few days if not longer. and now(I'm not kidding), the turn-around time is a few hours. and I'm not saying it will happen to you....but the last title I submitted(Todd Rundgren/Utopia Live in Columbus) was approved in 10 minutes!!!! it just seems like they really do appreciate the loyal support. when they changed the title system last week and got everyone upset...they offered to refund my donations....which I doubt any other site would do. I thought that was VERY COOL indeed. then they listened to concerns and changed back to the original system. big for Ed and dvdaf.

Okay... setup an aficionado list... Here are the titles that are in my dvdprofiler list but could not be found on aficionado.. seems like a lot to me... more than either profiler or guzzlefish are missing.

    Scotty,

I have a few of these in my list - El Mariachi / Desperado, Star Trek Original Series Vol. 1, Muholland Drive, American Pie 2 Unrated - if you'd like you can click on my list (you may have to check the wish list for Mulholland Drive - I'm not sure I moved it over yet) and click on the boxes next to my titles to add them to your list.

Generally it's best if you keep your search parameters simple - just enter "Cosby" for each of your cosby sets, etc.

And one thing that I don't like about DVDAF's additions is if I have more than one title with a similar name (Rocky 1, 2, 3, etc.) I have to enter "Rocky" three times since the check boxes will only allow you to select ONE title per search.

Not a big deal, but I wondered why my collection was missing a number of titles after I'd clearly checked more than one box.

And drop the "The" from the front of titles to have better search results.
