Can-Am, are you the same "John" that posted here a few times under the name karembeu?

Yeah, one of your enthusiastic posts about the Can-Am cabinets prompted me to place an order. Had to wait a while to for delivery because of a major snow storm and problems with the shipper but Can-Am credited me back some of the shipping cost, so it all worked out well. One of the best purchases I ever made.

I have not read this whole thread, but to just comment on the first post, if I had a friend or anyone for that matter come into my home and ask to see a receipt for anything, I would tell them to get the hell out of my house. Just my .02

That is a very good point.

Definitely an appropriate response if you hadn't stolen the DVD's, but what if you had and they had just called you on it (as in this case)?

Suffice to say...these two people just shouldn't be friends.

Friends don't steal.
Friends don't ask to see receipts.

But the way I look at it...the original poster pretty much knew he's been stolen from. Given that, he wasn't asking a friend for the receipt...he was asking a likely suspect. If the guy hadn't stolen them he would have most likely raised cain over him walking out with them in the end.

I've never had a friend steal a DVD from me, because I don't think any of my friends that come over to my house would do that. Whenever we have a party or a bunch of people over I usually lock the door to my bedroom. I've been thinking about getting a locking storage cabinet just for extra security.

The only problem I've had with people taking my DVDs was when my roommates would go into my room, when I wasn't there and borrow a movie to watch. That enraged me beyond belief. I would have gladly let them borrow the movie if I were there, or even if they called to ask me. I just told them not to go into my room when I wasn't there, and that pretty much solved everything.

It's not like I just asked a complete stranger.. like someone else said I suspected him of taking them. The week after my two copies were stolen he had the same movies sitting at his house. Obviously, anyone would be a little suspicious, it's natural.

Had that happen to me with a nice pair of gloves, once. Simply "stole" them back when opportunity knocked. We were about 10, and he was an a hole, still is. We weren't friends after that. I think he managed to escape the gf-beating rap a few years back somehow, completely lost interest in his life after that.

I did loan a setup DVD to my bro-in-law a LONG time ago. He hasn't returned it, or even used it! I should go get it. If it was a movie, I'd have done so already.

People who 'borrow' things (movies, books, CDs) and then keep them for months and months without reading/watching/listening have always confused me.

Maybe I'm just more careful with other people's stuff. I rarely borrow, and when I do, I always make sure to get it back in pristine condition within a few days.
