Radio Supplements on DVD
I'm really interested in some of the Lux Radio Theater and Mercury Theater broadcasts that are included on some of my Criterion DVD's including:
Spellbound
Rebecca
Notorius
The Third Man
The 39 Steps
I believe that these broadcasts are all now in the public domain. I'd really like to have them on CD format so that I can listen to them during long car drives. Additionally, the audio quality of these broadcasts is better than many of the other sources I have heard.
I know that discussion of bootlegs is forbidden on this forum and I don't condone those actions and don't own a single bootleg but would recording these broadcasts constitute a bootleg?
If not, does anyone know of a good way to record the streaming audio if I play these on computer?
Thanks in advance.

Not a lawyer -- just guessing...
I would think that if you record these for your own use, like to listen to in the car, it would be considered "fair use" and be considered legal. If you had other plans for the recordings, it's hard to say.

[/QUOTE] No real reason except that it is being marketed as a "feel good" movie and I don't generally like those unless there is a lot more going on.

Getting this thread back on track, I used to be a big OTR (Old Time Radio) collector. I wasn't into the shows you mention, or I'd offer to send you some.
Most, if not all, OTR shows are in the public domain due to a clause in the copyright laws. Apparently until the late 50's or early 60's you were not able to obtain a copyright for works that were only broadcast via radio. That's why there are so many OTR tapes and CDs beong swapped.
I haven't checked out the web sites listed above, but if they don't have free downloads, I know there are many shows avalible on Usenet newsgroups. Use Freeagent to do a search on "OTR" and you should find some.
Good Luck,

Thanks Videophile. I'll look into Usenet. I'm likely to just pay for them. One of the links has some really remarkable deals where you can get 20+ hours of programing for $3.99 w/free shipping. It'll save me lots of labor.
