Un-opened Dvds in Your Collection

How many un-opened dvds do you have in your collection ? I have about 50 or so, mostly $5.88 dvds from the WM bin.

I usually open them right away. I had a unopened RoboCop: CC, I was waiting for eBay prices to go up and unload it. Unfortunatly my brother found it when I was away and decided to watch it. Oh well...

matome 10-28-03 07:22 PM

Since I always open my DVD's when I get them for cataloging purposes (I use the inserts for the # of chapters) I technically don't have any sealed. Unwatched DVD's however...

gutwrencher 10-28-03 07:22 PM

Mondo Cane Collection-(had to walk the dog..still tryin' to crack it open)

The House That Dripped Blood-(just got today)

Legend of Eight Samurai-(Chiba)

Frogs-(recent addition)

KTIK 10-28-03 07:23 PM

Unopened: None.
Unwatched: Lawrence of Arabia (Never have the time), Law and Order: SVU season 1 (Just got), Army of Darkness (Watching it tomorrow or the next day)

bmello 10-28-03 07:31 PM

When I do buy new, I usually don't open them until I'm ready to watch them. That way if I need to unload them for any unforseen financial hardship I should get a little more money for a sealed copy on ebay.

emanon 10-28-03 07:38 PM

Maybe a couple of hundred...

RavenTwo 10-28-03 07:44 PM

Sparticus Criterion
Throne of Blood Criterion
Scarface
The Man who Knew too much

= 4

illennium 10-28-03 07:45 PM

106, for the same reason bmello mentioned.

Lucky. :p I should have ordered it online, but I foolishly thought I'd be able to find it locally. Of course, I couldn't :( so I wound up ordering it from Overstock.com.

As for unopened DVDs, I don't have any. I open them when I get them, even if I don't watch them right away. I probably have about 10 or so I haven't watched.

The R2 Amicus box set due on 11/24 will contain The House That Dripped Blood. It will have added trailers and a commentary track. I bought the Lions Gate version just for the Max Rosenberg featurette.

DonnachaOne 10-28-03 08:34 PM

Well, apparently this thread was unopened... http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...light=unopened

danwiz 10-28-03 08:37 PM

Unopened = 0
Unwatched = 0
Collection = about 255

mookiemeister 10-28-03 08:45 PM

I don't have any unopened DVDs. I keep up the viewing with the buying. I'm not a collector in the strictest sense so no reason to buy and not watch them.

Yeah, but what if you open it a year later and it turns out that it's defective? God knows I had quite a few of those throught out the years. It would suck even more if it was an expensive box set.

Open them as soon as possible!!!

SNKapcom 10-28-03 09:04 PM

I open them as soon as I get them to check for defective discs and scratches during shipping. As the person in the above post mentioned, i'd hate to open up a DVD a year after pruchase to find it defective.

jough 10-28-03 09:05 PM

I always open mine to make sure it's complete, and to look at the inserts and disc art. I have about four now that I haven't watched yet. But I'll probably hit two of them this week.

Gyno Rhino 10-28-03 09:18 PM

Same as the guys above.

Open 'em as soon as I can, check the discs superficially and in my player.

gotwavego 10-28-03 10:09 PM

About 50 of my 700+ DVD collection is unopened/unwatched, I think I'll open them though to check for obvious defects.

I usually open online / mail order purchases immediately upon receipt, but sometimes store (B&M) bought discs get put onto the shelf without being opened... I did however recently wait a week or so on opening a new two disc criterion from the recent DVDEmpire sale only to learn that disc one was missing... got a prepaid return label... hope they get another one in stock as I really want the movie.

fumanstan 10-28-03 10:28 PM

None are unopened. I don't understand any reason for buying movies without the intent to watch them in the immediate future unless you're buying with an intent to sell it later for big money.

Bandit03 10-28-03 11:10 PM

None, The first thing I do when I get home is open it and make sure that they work.

DVD Polizei 10-29-03 12:34 AM

I have around 65-100 I think that are unopened. I suppose I should open them to see if they are defective, but I'm lazy.

Out of about 1000, probably 400 or so unopened, for the same reason illennium mentioned. ;)
