Actually, they added several new scenes and the only stuff they cut out were boring exterior shots. Give me a break folks. Its pretty much the same exact film. I saw it last night on a DLP theater. Truly amazing.

I agree with matome, if this was to be released for christmas then online retailers would have already started taking preorders. As always, I will believe it when I see it.
Um, several stores ARE accepting preorders and have been acceptin for quite some time. In canada and UK especially.

According to a poster at another site (HTF) Fox just sent out an email that Dec. 16 is the release day. According to that guy, it's a very reliable source. Take that for what it's worth. For more specific details, just go to that forum.

Of course, at Costco, it says that it is being released on Dec. 2 . . .

I am a little concerned because there is no James Cameron commentary listed in the specs at Costco...

That is a load of crap. This new "director's cut" is not the way he originally wanted things. Its just an alternate cut of the film. He made certain alterations with today's audience in mind. If anyone has listened to the dvd audio commentary of ALIEN then youd know that Ridley Scott says a few times that the movie is perfect. He wouldn't change a thing to it. I guess money changes everything.

If you go the Alien homepage, and watch the short video, Scott talks about the decision to add those things in there. Basically, its unconvincing, especially given his comments on the original Alien DVD release.

I saw Alien last night on DLP and it looked great. The sound wasn't too hot though. Overall, while the additions didn't change anything that much, they didn't add anything either.

Amazon has a Dec. 2 release date. Doesn't look very reliable though.

Note that it's Dec 2, 2002 on Amazon.

Does anyone know whether this new set will also contain the original theatrical release (the cut versions of the film) same as what were given in the old Alien Legacy set? I was counting on that this set will contain both cut and uncut versions since I sold my Alien Legacy already.

Yes they will be included.

I saw a newspaper interview yesterday in which Scott scoffed at this being called a "Director's Cut." He said that the original release was the director's cut.

according to some sources the R2 British release will have DTS.
