2001 Space Odyssey Question

Hello,

I recently upgraded my HT sound and video, upgrading the old 4:3 TV to a 16:9 50" RPTV. With the new gear, I just watched my MGM DVD copy of "2001", and although the bass was good, the overall DD 5.1 sound was mediocre and the picture was poor! I've searched the net and found that there are about 1/2 dozen versions of the movie on DVD, including a $50 box set. Does anyone know which version is qoing to give me the best audio and video? Note that I'm not interested in specials, a fancy box, or other frills . . . just a top quality video transfer of the movie with good 5.1 sound!

TIA, Bill

There's only one that's anamorphic and that's the one you want: http://www.digitaleyes.net/Details.c...&affiliate=DPS.

Isn't the $50 box set the anamorphic remastered version? I think it is, but don't know for sure. Can't find the box set reviewed. Anyone have it and know?

I believe the one that Robert and BigT mentioned IS the one in the boxset. Of course, I'm assuming by boxset, you mean the single movie box with the senitype and lobbycards....

I can't find the link, but I saw there is a Suber-Bit version of it coming fairly soon. I could be wrong, it's happened twice before.
Hopefully not though. Cheers.
