who loves Bottom?

I meant the British comedy series, you pervs!

Never shown on TV in the US, I had only seen the ep included with the Young Ones box set. Decided to (semi-) blind buy the three-season set based on my admiration for Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson.

Fantastic stuff! Nobody can play a complete loser like Rik Mayall can.

A bit pricey, but well worth it. Also why do American sitcoms have over twenty episodes per season, but most Britcoms' seasons last only six?

Should I hold out any hope for another R1 DVD volume of Bottom or, even less likely, the more surreal Filthy, Rich & Catflap?

Or even the Holy Grail: [crosses fingers] Black Books? [/crosses fingers] Stupid Comedy Central gave up playing three-episode blocks once every three months at 1am on a Weeknight.

Seem to have rambled a bit. Well, no harm done. Jolly good luck!

Sorry I don't have any answers, but thanks for posting the mini review. I'm planning on renting The Young Ones soon (loved the few eps I have seen) and Bottom looked interesting to watch afterwards.

I'm a top man personally...

Actually, the only ep of "Bottom" I've seen was the one on the Young Ones set too, and I quite liked it. Don't know if I'd purchase a set blind but I'd definitely be interested in seeing more of it, quite a hoot!

I love this show. I just hope they don't cut anything out of it like they did with the Young Ones set.

I just had the luck of reviewing the complete set! If you're a fan, it's a must buy. As far as I can tell nothing was cut out and it looks and sounds really nice. There's a few keen bonus features on the set as well.

Fantastic show.

As for Black Books, join the enlightened and get a multiregion player. I loves me my Black Books r2 DVD.

Re: who loves Bottom?

Bottom is my all-time favorite sitcom. I started out with umpteenth generation VHS copies taped off British TV years ago, then got the PAL tpaes a few years later, then finally the DVDs. Rik and Ade are the absolute best.

There won't be another volume of Bottom, because the 3 disc R1 set contains ALL of the episodes made. It's the entire series run. HOWEVER, region 2 has DVD releases of four different Bottom Live stage shows, as well as Guest House Paradiso, the Bottom movie...all worthwhile.

While I'd love to see Filthy, Rich & Catflap released, I'm not holding my breath (there were only 6 episodes).

Another Rik & Ade gem is The Dangerous Brothers, though it is only available on VHS in both R1 & R2.

The less said about Guest House Paradiso, the better, I'm told, though looking at the IMDb quotes from the live shows is a laugh and a half.

Guest House Paradiso is a total laugh riot. Anyone familiar with the show should love it. People who have never seen nor enjoyed a Bottom episode will think it's garbage, I'm sure, as it takes the physical comedy and base humor of the show and pumps it up to the nth degree. Definitely an acquired taste...or an acquired tastelessness.

BOTTOM is simply THE funniest TV show ever created in any country ever!
Its one of the few shows to ever make me laff out loud and cry! its just too funny for words, I watched the 1st episode the other day and it was like revisiting an old friend, simply a must buy, and it not very expensive if you look around.

This set is priceless.... it's great to see the episodes in their full, original length.... when it played in Canada on YTV back in the 90's, there were concessions made for ads, and maybe just a few for good taste, as the edits used to jump around quite a bit. (like the scene in 'Smell' where they're in the sex toy shop to buy the pheremones).... I've been waiting forever for it to come out, and I'm wading my way thru the ep's..... brilliant stuff, this !
