B'oh! accidently bought full-screen instead of wide-screen...

Got 28 days later from BB, and accidently got FS instead of WS...removed the shrink wrap, but haven't taken off the security stickers yet. Any hope of an exchange/return?

WestEndRiot 10-21-03 06:52 PM

we're not supposed to take back anything with the shrink wrap taken off since we all know those security stickers can be carefully taken off one side and then reaffixed. some Best Buys might be different but if you brought it to ours we'd say "sorry 'bout ya."

And this is a bargain because...?

By the way, I think you mean "D'oh!"

I did that once when I bought a FS version of Silence of the Lambs. Didn't notice until a few chapters into the movie, and I was like, "Wait a minute..." I was SOOO mad. Tried exchanging it for WS at 3 different stores, but no go. I try to think of it as a learning experience :)

Not so super now are you boy?

Good luck! :D

I did this last week with the Matrix Reloaded. I took the bonus disc out, but didn't remove the security stickers. I exchanged it with no problems.

Precisely what I was thinking…

Since the security sticker is still on, just get it re-shrink wrapped. Slip the kid working the counter at Blockbuster a fin and he might do it for you.

You're not alone Superboy, a bunch of people were getting confused at Best Buy this morning when I was picking mine up. They made the covers way too similar on this one.

B'OH!

...Homer Simpson doesn't say "B'oh" he says "D'oh"!...

The disk doesn't work. I took it back and kindly asked if i could have the WS version instead. The managed said it was cool since it's basically the same movie.

Well that's just defrauding the rental store out of a widescreen copy.

TheKing 10-22-03 12:50 AM

That, and don't most rental places put a sticker or something on their rental discs to prevent people from doing just that sort of thing?

*Sigh* i don't lie about said topics on anonymous forums to make myself feel better -rolleyes-

I tried out my fullscreen version on my dvdrom drive, and it didn't work. Could be my system, but i thought of it as an opportunity to exchange it for the WS version. Took it back and the person who sold it to me is actually the person who helped me. The manager was pretty nice about it, said it happens a lot.

BB does indeed put a rental tab on the DVD. I don't like renting dvds because that tab messes up your drive, especially crappy ones like the ony in my PS2.

dyerjp 10-22-03 07:44 AM

that's what happens when people don't read what they are buying. you get the wrong stuff.

Groucho 10-22-03 07:53 AM

I'm not surprised you made this mistake. When I was buying my copy last night, BestBuy had put the price tag for the film OVER the part on the front that said "FULL" or "WIDE." So all you could see on every copy was just "SCREEN." Thanks a lot, BestBuy!

I had to check the back to make sure that I had the right one, but had I not known ahead of time that there were two versions it would have been a crapshoot.

gutwrencher 10-22-03 10:46 AM

the ONLY problem is people are in a huge rush to grab and run. when I buy any dvd....I take at least 15sec to examine it. ws/fs, condition of case, loose disc inside....etc. taking another trip back to the store is a waste of my time. prevention is there....unless you ignore it. of course on-line shopping is a take-what-ya-get kinda thing. so far, no problems there either.

digitalboy 10-22-03 11:02 AM

I didnt even know there WAS a fullscreen copy until I looked at the back of the box and saw 1:33.1. This was of course AFTER I bought it. To make matters MORE confusing, my Best Buy had their price sticker over the word full or wide, so all you could see was " screen version" .... :(

wertent 10-22-03 11:48 AM

I did this with The Indiana Jones set expect i noticed it before taking off the shrink wrap.... whew
