Is Firefly going to be widescreen or fullframe???

I thought that the initial specs for the Firefly boxset said that the episodes would be in Anamorphic WS, but now all of the online stores are reporting that its gonna be Full Frame.

I seem to remember the show being aired in WS, so what happened, are the DVDs no longer going to be in WS?

Hmm, this is strange. I just looked at the promo materials that FOX sends out and made a GIF of the Firefly page here. Looks like fullframe to me (despite their odd nomenclature of 1:33:01).

According to fireflyfans.net, it's widescreen. They got their information from DVDfile.com, but it was posted 9/17/03. So maybe it's been changed from widescreen to fullscreen only recently? If that's true, that would totally suck balls.

The way FOX treated the show (or rather the way FOX treated the fans of the show) it would be entirely in character for them to release the DVDs in foolscreen. Might want to cut out 40 minutes from the first episode while they are at it....

Fox seems to be having trouble with the basics lately. My widescreen Angel Season 2 set says "Full Frame 1.78:1", so who knows what they're thinking over there?

Whedon seems to want his shows presented on Region 1 DVD as they were shown on TV if you believe his statements, so I would expect Firefly in widescreen and the erroneous specs to be from the same wunderkinds at Fox who labeled a widescreen set Full Frame 1.78:1.

I emailed FOX Retail and asked about the aspect ratio. I told them that we've been seeing conflicting information and to please check into it. They may just point me back to their promotional materials, but I'll report back on any reply that I get.

Another possible complaint with this set is the order the episodes are presented:

Firefly: Disc 1 "The Train Job" (with commentary), "Bushwhacked," "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Jaynestown."

Firefly: Disc 2
This disc includes the following episodes: "Out of Gas" (with commentary), "Shindig" (with commentary), "Safe" and "Ariel."

Firefly: Disc 3
This disc includes the following episodes: "War Stories" (with commentary), "Objects in Space" (with commentary), "Serenity (Part 1)" (with commentary) and "Serenity (Part 2" (with commentary).

Firefly: Disc 4
This disc includes the following episodes: "Heart of Gold," "Trash" and "The Message" (with commentary). Additional bonus features include featurettes, deleted scenes, Alan Tudyk's audition, Joss singing the Firefly theme, set tours and more.
Why are they presenting the true pilot as the last episode on disc 3? I would think they would try to correct the Fox broadcast order in the DVD release.
