The Platinum titles do NOT stay in print for 2 years. Snow White and Beauty and the Beast were only sold for 4 months. I expect Lion King will be announced in its own press release about going out of print early in 2004.

Sleeping Beauty is pretty much a Platinum title (2 discs, cardboard cover, etc.) and they are just increasing the timing from here on (1 every 6 months).

The movies usually stay in the vault for several years. Anywhere from 3 years to 8 years was common with VHS. With dvd we don't really know for sure, as they have never re-released an out of print dvd (Peter Pan limited was redone as Peter Pan SE). They say the Platinum titles will be out of print for 8 years, but who knows?

Why do they have to put them in a vault for? Why not just stop producing them?

Platinum titles in the past had only stayed in print for about 3 1/2 months, but The Lion King is going to remain in print until 2005, which coincidentally is when the 2-a-year Platinum schedule commences, with March and October releases. Both of those changes were announced at the May 1 Q1 financial report statement, although it seems like they're plans (and their vernacular) are always changing.

The Marketing Department of Disney is second in EVILNESS only to the Dark Empire that is George Lucas.

I can live with the Fantasia edits; even the narration that’s been dubbed over (though admittedly, I would prefer the unedited version). However, what really burns me is how the DVD is touted as “Walt Disney’s Original Uncut Version.”

I'm curious...what's censored on Fantasia? What's the PC maneuver?

Everytime one of these threads start, some people start to panic thinking they are pulling DVDs off the shelves. They only stop production of the DVDs. Just the other day, I saw both Snow White and Beauty and the Beast in a store. Last time people panic'd over E.T. being pulled but it's still available.

They need to put those sequels back into the vault so they can churn out another 962 of them before the end of 2004. After all, they don't want to flood the market with DTV poo while the DTV crap is still readily available. I think the main reason people post threads about titles going OOP is because as availability wanes, chances of having to pay MSRP increase, and who among us likes to do that?
