What's really going to be funny is when the WS format becomes the norm and Walmart is going to start carrying WS only and the ignorant Joe sixpacks will start wondering why the side bars are on their screen.

It's these J6P's that will keep the separate fullscreen editions coming out. However, I have no problem with that, as long as I still have my choice.

I was in Circuit City last week and overheard a lady asking about a copy of Lion King 'without those bars'. The clerk was looking at the package to see if it had both versions on it, and then started looking on the shelf to see if there was a fullscreen-only version. I passed by a couple of minutes later, and she was buying the DVD. I guess the zoom feature on her $40 DVD player will be getting some use now...

There is a Blockbuster connected to our Walmart parking lot. I just went into Blockbuster, picked up one of their WS versions and asked them to price match Walmart. Quick and easy.

Well that's a big YMMV. Wal-Mart doesn't do sales flyers do they? I think b/c each stores prices vary they don't. You were just lucky the Blockbuster clerk knew about the price at that Wal-Mart. Last time I pricematched at Blockbuster with a Toys 'R Us ad they KEPT the flyer and included it with their paperwork for the pricematch (Best Buy does this too).

I asked her if there was any need for something showing Walmart's price she said that she already knew the price for
Matrix Reloaded but otherwise they take your word for it unless there's a big difference in the price. She said in that case they call WM and verify it for you. It could be that we just happen to have a laid back Blockbuster here which is lucky.

My next question for them is if they will price match out of town stores since we don't have a Best Buy or Circuit City here in town.

People still go to the store to buy DVDs 'cause they can shake it.

"My favorite is the screaming, shoeless child. You can usually find them in the toy section of the store."

Don't you just love the trailor trash atmosphere?

Good thing there's no Wal-Mart around my area, don't want to be limited by the censored selection due to a bunch of overly sensitive and protective board members.

We do have a couple Targets though.

Blockbusters in my State don't price match.

Actually my Wal-Mart has a very good selection of WS DVDs. I sometimes like to just look at the FS box to see the difference in cover art. When I picked up Matrix Reloaded, I actually had to dig for the FS version. (I of course purchased the WS). I usually don't go to WM for any other reason than to browse the DVDs. The electronics dept is relatively close to lawn & garden, so I just come in the lawn & garden entrance (thereby avoiding the WM shoppers). My father-in-law has a saying something like, "Wal-Mart, where the prices are inversely proportional to the width of the customer's ass."

I have stopped shopping at WM as much as possible & barely shopped there in the first place.

Especially seeing the increase in P&S only dvds. I have not let the low prices tempt me into spending there.

Some say "Help the cause, purhase OAR at WM & show them what we want!". Yet how can you make any sort of difference when the majority of P&S far outnumbers OAR a million to one?

I have done the next best thing. Wrote a letter to the corporate office to voice my displeasure with the P&S only(& edited) dvds by claiming the 'Satisfaction Gauranteed' slogon does not ring true & if they really wanted to live up to that promise. They would give customers an equal fair choice of both versions. I also made sure to mention the irony of them carrying WS tvs!

I did have to face the dreadful WM last week while taking my aunt out Xmas shopping(she put aton of stuff on layaway for her kids). She raved about how great WM is,how they 'really put effort in their work & treat the customers right!' etc etc. Yet we had to go to the most rundown messy ugly WM in the city. Terrible place. So while I was waiting for her to finish with layaway. I browsed the dvd section...& P&S was all I saw. Including the new Scarface dvd,no OAR in sight.

The $5 double pack of Kingdom of the Spiders with Night of the Living Dead was tempting. Yet I already own a good quality edition of Living Dead. Best Buy raised the price of Kingdom to $10 now instead of $7 like before. So should I pay the extra $5 just to not purchase at WM?

Oh,while the WM my aunt wanted to go to was terrible. Another one out in the suburbs, while just as lousy with OAR selection is alot cleaner. Yet still a terrible store regardless of the 'for the family' act they put on.

And no Im not a Joe sp either for shoppinjg at walmart. It located across the street from the Sheriffs department were I work at, and at 14.95 I felt it was a good deal.

god...i can't wait to buy "Matrix Reloaded" (ws) at my local Walmart. they'll sell it cheap.

there's this chinese place at Midland & Finch (that's in Toronto) selling the Hong Kong R3 version of "Matrix Reloaded" for $49.99 (plus tax) which i think is insane whereas i find a place closer to my house selling the exact same copy (R3) for $33 (tax included).

I hope the Walmart in Agincourt Mall sells it for $24.83 (or whatever price i bought my Scarface DVD for)

My walmart had FS about 95% to 5% WS. But what I thought was funny was the the signs on the display all said "Matrix Reloaed Full-Screen $14.87." No mention of a WS price anywhere to be found. Of course it was the same price, but I thought this was weird regardless. Just further proves who they are catering to w/ DVD selection.

I won't bash Wal-Mart because I do shop there as their prices are generally the best....so I guess I'm just used to seeing all the different ethnicities, deformities, employees, etc. all the time.

If I want a DVD they don't have, simple, head to BB or the internet. No big deal.

Our nearest WM has a decent selection of WS . . . though definitely not thorough. My biggest problem there (and some online stores) is that I'm so into WS, the I forget that there actually are FF ones out there . . . I catch myself all the time forgetting to double check to see if it's WS or FF until after I've already left. Luckily, the only time that I opened it before noticing, I was able to convince them that the stickers were covering the words "Full Screen" on the box (which was sort of true . . . it covered up part of them, but I probably would have been able to tell if I had remembered to look), so they took it back. One of the best things about WM . . . excellent return policy.

How many of you wal-mart complainers are not in the South and or in big cities. I would contend that the problems you describe are indemic to your location and the type of people you have living around you. The Wal-mart nearest my house (20 miles) is the only place you can buy DVD's. (There are 2 mom and pop video rental places.) Wal-mart always carries both versions where applicable. I have never noticed any altered or (wal-mart)censored versions of movies.

I have never been to any of the stores outside of the south. So maybe we get treated better by our own kind of folk. Maybe you big city folk only know how to run over priced, pretentious, boutiques and mega electronic superstores.

No, I dont work for walmart. I just spend all my money htere.

Not over here in the Bay Area. I wasn't planning on getting it but for 14.87? It's a steal. It looked about 50-50 with regards to FS vs. WS in the WalMart I went to.

Wow! I didn't know there were WS and FS versions. Guess I got lucky and picked up the right one!

I got mine at BB though since they had the bonus dvd at the same price. Yeah, a gimmick, but a free gimmick nonetheless.

I bought it at Wal*Mart last night. There was a big display when you walk in. The side facing you as you walk past was ALL Full Screen. The other side of it was partially blocked by a metal rack that I had to move to get to the Widescreen ones at the bottom.

I'm no big fan of Wal-mart, but for titles like Matrix: Reloaded I do sometimes shop there. They had it for less than $15, and I managed to find a WS version, so what the heck...I'll give the evil empire some of my hard-earned dollars. But FS did outnumber WS, though there were still plenty of WS versions when I bought mine.

For titles that aren't blockbusters, I usually go to Best Buy or order online. Hey, I wonder if Wal-mart will stock 28 Days Later. They did have Wrong Turn, so maybe. Believe it or not, my Wal-mart still has copies David Cronenberg's Spider in stock, so it's sometimes hard to predict what you'll find.

My kids always ask me to get the fullscreen version and this is kind of silly for a number of reasons, but mainly because we have a WIDESCREEN projection tv system! Maybe they are confused? WIDESCREEN is FULLSCREEN on that 'tv.'

They have been watching letterboxed movies on Laserdisc with me since they were born but their natural inclination is still towards fullscreen.

Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that this is going to be several B&M's Black Friday bargain title this Christmas?

Actually, you guys should have a look at the full screen version. It shows more of the image than the widescreen, particularly the top and bottom of the frame. This allows a much better view of Persephone's cleavage.
I have both versions and prefer the full screen

Tell me you're kidding about the better view of Persephone's boob's comment.

For the last time, if people would just buy wide screen and zoom-in for full screen display, Wal-Mart along w/ all the damn studios will stop producing FS version, which might lead to cheaper DVD prices.

No, I'm not kidding re the boobs. The movie was shot in Super 35 thus the widescreen is actually matted on the top and bottom cutting off what you would see on the full screen version.
