DVD Talk Legend
almost 800 Dvd's plus 100+ LD
No VHS tapes. I was never a big VHS collector. I owned a few at one time then got into LD's and slowly got rid of my VHs tapes.
I currently have a VCR that I have not used for 6 years.

I owned about 400 VHS tapes and currently have a DVD collection of 510. However, my DVD collection has been built up in two years as opposed to the 17 years of buying VHS. DVD is a more collectible format.

I have 566 DVD titles. I owned about 350 VHS titles, but just recently weeded them out. I now have 85 VHS titles. They are all music or film titles that I do not yet have on DVD. I'll continue to keep my favorite VHS titles until they are released on disc.

Between 150-200 DVDs. I owned maybe 10-15 pre-recorded VHS tapes, but I bought dozens of blank tapes and taped episodes of various TV shows and the occasional full film. Those are all in the attic, now...

Very nice article. It's pretty much what we've all seen. I think I owned maybe 15 total VHS's in my life.... they just didn't strike me as 'collectible' at all. When DVD came around.... oh boy ... you know what happened there

I currently have 213.   That number will drop soon though.   I plan on going through my collection and getting rid of a few titles that I really don't watch anymore.

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
642 DVDs (see my collection below), and growing weekly. My VHS used to be well into the 1000's but thanks to eBay it's been decreasing as fast as I can replace them.

I used to have a thread tracking this information, but got too busy to keep it up. Oh well. Nice to see a poll is at least back. I own 3,500 DVDs or so.

I've got 376 DVDs. I'll tell you this much: working in Circuit City for 3 years certainly contributed to that. I would just stand there at work thinking, "It's slow, I'm going to go look at the movies." Sure enough, I'd find one or two and with my discount, I can't lose! Heheheh... Well, now that I'm no longer there (thank God), I can just focus on buying my new releases. I'm pretty free of the temptation of catalog titles... mostly...
I really just try to buy movies that I like and I think would be worth owning. Don't get me wrong, there are a few turds in my collection, but hey, there's some in everybody's collection. One thing that I have promised myself is that I wouldn't go beyond my regional borders (R1). If I decide I'm going to scour the world for the best release, I'm going to go crazy and probably broke. I have kindly set my own limit.

Re: How Many DVDs do you own?
660 DVDs at the moment here.
Yes, but with one or two exceptions, the majority were picked up cheaply in sales as an alternative to renting. I think I owned about 150 at most. I gave them all away, apart from one or two that I am still waiting for on DVD (e.g. After Hours).
