Lion King Collector's Gift Set: Review

Lion King Collector's Gift Set

Did any one here buy this set, and is it really worth the extra $$

I can't find a review for this gift set, Like most importantly I wanna know about the book, cuase the dvd is the same and there are just some sketches, and is the book worth the extra money

Also is says its limited ( like what the ET limited edition,,thats still out there)

If you know a link to a review of the book with photos of it, let me know.

IMHO, all these collector's box sets are highly over priced, with Scarface and Spider-Man as recent examples. Most just come with lobby cards, lithographs, art work of some sort and not much else to justify to me spending twice to three times as much for the box than what I could get the movie for. I saw the box set for Lion King and it was 47.99 at Best Buy, or the movie itself is 15.99. Hmmmm, some how I don't feel the extra stuff in the box is worth the extra money, I don't care about the content of the book. Scarface is worse, with the box set 50.00-60.00 depending where you shop, and the movie for about 15.99-19.99. And the Scarface box comes with LESS content. Lobby cards and a money clip??? Gezus, who's buying this crap?

BTW, did anybody else see the Spider Man boxes collecting dust on the shelves months later after the release, and dramatically cut down in price? They started out at 70.00, if I recall right, and my local Best Buy wound up marking them down to 39.99.

I agree with you calhoun, the price increase of 25 bucks more for the extra crap just doesn't seem to make to much sense to buy. I'm an avid collector of crap and I'm thinking it's not worth it for what you get with the extra amount. atleast with scarface you got another dvd.

The price here in Toronto for the DVD alone is $23.99 and the Gift set is 39.99 CAD

So a difference of 16.00 CAD

While I won't deny that the vast majority of this stuff is crap, I have to point out that Scarface actually comes with an extra DVD with another entire movie, exclusive to the set. That's quite a bit of content, in my opinion.

But your general point stands. I paid through the nose to get that box, and ultimately all I wanted were the DVDs. This gigantic, cheezy looking box (and lets not forget the money clip) are worthless to me. And I'm not even remotely tempted to pay an extra $20 or so for a Lion King book and lithos.

I'm not liking this trend of increasing the size of packaging. I'm running out of room just trying to store standard keepcases. I don't need freakin' Scarface taking up the same space as 20 films.

I was actually just thinking something like this the other day with the LOTR EE Gift Sets. The marketing is actually rather brilliant . . . lot's of circular logic to confuse you as you hand out your cash. But it actually makes me laugh a little . . . I believe it goes something like this:

"Ooh, look! An extra DVD in the gift set, with a bunch of cool extras about Tolkien on it . . . but wait . . . that's an awful lot of extra money for a single disc. But wait again . . . there's a set of statues/bookends that comes with it, too. An extra disc AND two statues/bookends might be worth that extra money. But I don't really want the statues/bookends. But, there's an extra DVD in the gift set, with a bunch of cool extras about Tolkien on it . . ."

This pattern of thinking keeps your mind occupied just long enough to hand over your credit card number.

Now, I just need to decide if I'm going to get the Two Towers Gift Set. Ooh, look . . . there's an extra DVD in the gift set, with a bunch of extras about Gollum on it . . .

I got the Giftset for my GF as a present. I personally only like to buy the Boxsets when I feel the extras are worth in. I got Scarface, and Spider man cause I valued the extras that it came with.
