I would say definitely that this is not a good blind buy. I enjoyed Circus of Horrors somewhat, but the other films were truly bottom of the barrel. Jess Franco has made some great films and he's made many more awful films, but his Fu Manchu flicks are almost completely without interest. They aren't even bad in an interesting way. They're just terminally dull. The extras were decent, but even at the low price that BU are asking for this set, I wouldn't recommend it.
And I'm not sure what genre EPKJ is talking about, but keep in mind that with the exception of Circus of Horrors, these are not horror films.

Just chiming in to back up what Spinner X has said.
IMO, Lee himself (as a lead) is an aquired taste, never mind the movies. Personally I like him, but I know as many people who don't and this isfar far his best stuff. As a blind buy, I'd give it a NO.
I will disagree about Circus.. though. To me Bloody Judge is the only horror, and the others are crime/mystery/old action. But that's more semantics than then anything else.

thats a NO on a blind buy. it's an acquired taste. I'm a Franco fan...good or bad. I'm also a Lee fan. being a BU fan and completist...it was a no brainer for my library. or you could just gather response info, say screw it....and take a chance anyway.

I'd never seen any Fu Manchu films before, but there were some fans discussing this set on Mobius a while back. The general consensus seemed to be that the Fu Manchu films that BU included in the set were the worst in the series. I will say again though that on the plus side, BU put a pretty low list price on this set.

The only decent Fu Manchu flick is the first one, Mask of Fu Manchu. I applaud Blue Underground for their efforts on other neglected movies but releasing dreck like these awful Lee movies and Shape of Things to Come isn’t doing their rep any favors.

Classic was used as an adjective describing sixties exploitation films. It was not intended as a claim to the cinematic status of these films in general. However, they are classic examples of sixties exploitation films.

This set does depend on one's tastes. I for one, love these types of films and have seen the four films before, so I glady bought it right away. Speaking of this set, has anyone who purchased it having trouble with CIRCUS OF FEAR? Luckily mine plays fine, but I have read reports of defective copies.

I had it in my hands yesterday, but I put it back because I wanted to see how much it went for online. I'm all for buying things blind, but $60 is a big investment into something I may not like.

There does seem to be widespread reports of CIRCUS OF FEAR not playing on certain players. My copy locked up in my Sony, but played perfectly throughout on my Cyberhome 500.
It might be wise to wait on this set until they figure out an exchange program.
