is Species anamorphic?

I just rented it and I get some pretty good sized black bars on my TV, almost Ben-Hur level. Is it anamorphic? It says it is on the back.

The original version I believe WASN'T anamorphic, but then MGM rereleased it in anamorphic (still bare bones though)

Well, I just wanted to know for sure. There have been some dvds, Good Will Hunting for example, which are said to be anamorphic on the packaging but aren't.
